Robert Smyth Academy is looking for a new member of the team to support the Physical Education with the day to day set up of lessons, support the extensive provision of outreach activities and extra-curricular activity, and ensure that equipment, working areas and store cupboards are maintained to a high standard.


The successful applicant will:

  • Work to high standards in ensuring a good quality of preparation and organisation for the Physical Education Faculty.
  • Maintain and promote the ethos of the academy.
  • Be enthusiastic and have good communication and organisational skills.
  • Have flexibility in working to enable some evening hours when required for fixtures and events.
  • Possess an understanding and interest in a variety of sports.

Detailed Job Role - Apprentice Physical Education technician

  • To ensure equipment is ready for session use at the start of each session assist with setting up and taking down of equipment particularly specialised equipment e.g. trampolines
  • To ensure that the sports hall store cupboards and outside garage are maintained in a fit to purpose condition and ultimately are safe for students/staff to enter.
  • To coordinate all fixtures for all teaching staff (to include booking coaches, referees, contact opposition, display team lists, organise student contact list, disseminate and collect consent forms)
  • To prepare kit, drinks, first aid, match balls, goals etc prior to fixtures
  • To enter the fixture results onto the relevant competition websites (e.g. Team Leicestershire) and liaise with the competition secretaries including organising the payment of affiliation fees.
  • To support the running of fixtures where possible
  • To support faculty outreach events
  • To maintain upkeep of display boards in foyer and outside building (over 10 noticeboards)
  • To regularly audit the equipment in the storage facilities to identify areas requiring additional items.
  • To facilitate the orders for ESPO and other providers.
  • To ensure the spare kit is washed regularly and maintained.
  • To ensure team kits are washed.
  • Report to and Liaise with GM services regarding equipment upkeep.
  • To help organise nonparticipants when there are a large number of teaching groups and organise detention list.
  • To maintain and organise the PE google Calendar system with updates to staff and key priorities
  • To assist with the general day to day running of the faculty.
  • To help formulate the termly newsletter
  • I day per week based in the classroom supporting students


You will undertake a Level 3 Teaching Assistant with Sports apprenticeship, this will be on the job and take approximately 18 months to complete.


Working week:
Monday - Friday

Hours: 8.15am

  • 4:15pm (term time only)

From £6.40 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
