About this role in the team:
As the Head of Risk, you'll be reporting to the VP for Risk & Compliance

You'll be responsible for:

  • Designing and maintaining BVNK's global risk management programme, ensuring a consistent and scalable approach in all jurisdictions the Group operates.
  • Develop the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework and related policies and processes, ensuring they meet regulatory expectations and are tailored to the business, while also enhancing operational efficiencies.


We are looking for a team player; someone who is adaptable and enjoys solving complex problems in a constantly changing environment.

You must be able to think strategically, prioritise appropriately, manage numerous concurring priorities, and work well under stress. You will be comfortable managing senior stakeholders and drafting papers for senior audiences, namely senior management and regulators.

You would have managed a team and are passionate about building a team who share our values, and perform to our high standards.

Your key stakeholders are the Chief Compliance Officer, and the Heads of Compliance, FCC, and all BVNK risk owners.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

As the Head of Risk your key accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Designing and maintaining BVNK's global risk management programme, ensuring a consistent and scalable approach in all jurisdictions the Group operates.
  • Developing BVNK's global risk management framework and related policies and processes, ensuring they meet regulatory expectations and are tailored to the business, while also enhancing operational efficiencies.
  • Working closely with senior management and Board to establish and maintain BVNK's:
  • risk taxonomy, for identification and categorisation of risks.
- risk appetite statement.

  • Ensuring appropriate data and infrastructure are in place to support the risk management process. Risk data and infrastructure must provide timely and accurate information and analytical capabilities, to ensure that sufficient management information can be generated to understand BVNK's risk profile and risk exposures.
  • Maintaining BVNK's governance and policy frameworks.
  • Ensuring that the BVNK group has the appropriate oversight and governance structures in place to allow for proactive communication and reporting of risk status.
  • Developing and embedding key risk indicators, identifying emerging risks, and preparing any mitigation or remediation plans for risks falling outside prescribed risk appetite.

Maintaining relevant legal entities' risk registers.

  • Developing and maintaining a Risk & Controls Self-Assessment (RCSA) methodology and framework

Acting as a primary senior contact point within BVNK and its banking partners for risk related queries.

  • Creating and overseeing the implementation of the annual risk management plan to meet BVNK's growth strategy.
  • Provide periodic reporting of risk management updates to senior leadership and provide adhoc risk updates to regulators as needed.
  • Cultivating and embedding a strong risk management culture across the business and assisting risk owners in the identification, assessment and mitigation of risks.
  • Being a champion for risk in the company: promote a culture of proactive risk management, help embed it into BVNK's operating model, and communicate frequently to ensure enthusiasm, support and progress for enterprise risk management across the organisation.

What we need from you:

  • Must have 810 years' experience as a risk professional at a payment/emoney institution, and desired exposure to digital assets risks.
  • Must have proven experience designing, planning and rolling out global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) models and frameworks from scratch.
  • Demonstrated riskbased decisioning and strategic thinking.
  • Prior exposure to contacts with regulators is preferable.
  • Should be comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy and managing evolving priorities to deliver against the team's strategy.
