Specialist industrial manufacturing company in Birmingham requires a Health & Safety Assistant / Compliance / SHEQ Assistant.

Reporting to the Compliance Health and Safety Manager, the Compliance SHEQ Health and Safety Assistant will support the Compliance Team in maintaining and developing the company management systems and driving the Health, Safety and Environmental Culture forward.


SHEQ Health & Safety Assistant Experience:

  • Experience of working in a Compliance, Quality or Health and Safety environment
  • ISO14001 Experience
  • Experience working with Waste
  • Experience working within an environmental regulated environment
  • Environmental or Science degree level qualification
  • NEBOSH or working torwards
  • Compliance Practices
  • Good mathematical and analytical skills
Health & Safety Assistant / Compliance / SHEQ Assistant responsibilities:

  • Analyse health, safety and environmental data to determine trends and highlight improvement opportunities
  • Identify, organise and coordinate staff training
  • Facilitate Contractor and Visitor inductions
  • Take part in and present at the company Health and Safety committee meetings which take place monthly and annual Health and Safety weeks.
  • Work alongside and, support Safety Representatives in achieving their duties and responsibilities
  • Conduct risk assessments following appropriate training
  • Conduct internal auditing, reporting and followup
  • Conduct internal health, safety and environmental awareness training
  • Complete weekly, monthly and quarterly Compliance reports
  • Monitor / control and as appropriate supervise specific wastes leaving the site
  • Develop safety and environmental campaigns e.g. Safety Week
  • Provide assistance with; accident and incident investigation, control of incident and concern documentation and the closing of corrective/preventative actions
  • Input actions required by Departmental Managers to ensure continuing compliance:
  • Input data into in-house systems
  • Input data into HSE / Environment Agency systems
  • Provide support with insurance evidence files
  • Provide advice on Health, Safety and Environmental matters
  • Provide general administrative support to the Compliance Department including (but not limited to); control of calibration records, maintenance of site notice boards, raising of purchase requisitions and general filing, indexing, and archiving
