Job Title: Governance Assistant at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust

The Governance team is searching for a dynamic and skilled individual to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge in Governance. The ideal candidate will collaborate with the Care Groups to implement governance systems, manage risks, conduct investigations, clinical audits, adhere to NICE guidelines, national directives, and ensure compliance. They will engage with Care Group management teams to support the flow and monitoring of governance work streams and compliance. The successful candidate should be a self-starter, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate strong organizational abilities when working under tight deadlines.

Data collection, analysis, and report writing will be fundamental aspects of this role, and candidates must showcase a high level of proficiency in these areas.

Prior knowledge or experience in Governance principles and transferable skills would be advantageous, and training and guidance will be provided.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required, with the flexibility to adapt to new systems as needed. The Governance Assistant will report to the Divisional Governance Advisor.

Main responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Divisional Quality and Assurance Managers to ensure monitoring of Quality and Safety targets, risk identification, and provide support across the organization
  • Maintain and update an evidence library for key targets ensuring proper management of all necessary policy and documentation
  • Collaborate with Divisions to address governance issues, monitor incidents, develop audit and risk management plans, record actions, and ensure key learnings from incidents are applied
  • Facilitate assessments, visits, and interviews to support compliance with regulations and standards
  • Implement and embed assurance principles and outcomes across the organization's structure

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Essential
    • Educated to GCSE level in Math and English
    • Demonstrable experience in a healthcare role with decision-making responsibilities
    • Proficient in organizing meetings and training events
    • Knowledge of commissioning and provider services in the NHS, clinical governance, audit, risk management, and clinical effectiveness
    • Excel database design and formatting skills
    • Ability to initiate and follow up on actions efficiently within a busy workload
  • Desirable
    • Educated to A level or equivalent, preferably to Degree level in healthcare or quality improvement
    • IT qualification (minimum ECDL or equivalent)
    • Continual Professional Development and self-directed learning
    • Experience in report writing and data analysis
    • Understanding of NICE guidelines, Project Management, and change management
