About the role


To support the Site Environmental Manager and Site facilities in ensuring site activities and waste management are conducted in an environmentally sound manner and in accordance with relevant environmental legislation and other standards to which the organisationsubscribes.

Ensure all tasks are performed in an organised and professional manner which drives continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing waste data and submission to the Environment Agency
  • Management of the landfill permit reporting requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with the EPR Permits and other applicable legislation & standards
  • Maintenance, implementation and continual improvement of the EMS to the ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 Standard
  • Liaising with the Environment Agency, certification personnel, customers and suppliers
  • Identifying training needs and providing in house training to employees
  • Investigating incidents and leading root cause analyses
  • Conducting environmental audits and site inspections
  • Collating information, analysing data and constructing reports to the external authorities
  • Excellent analytical and reporting writing skills
  • Providing environmental advice & performance reporting to the site
  • Effective communication across all levels
  • Ensure the safety of members of the environment department, contractors, visitors and where relevant, members of the public by minimising any health and safety risks
  • Follow safety procedures and work instructions to ensure compliance with legal and other requirements to which the company subscribes
  • Produce and follow risk assessments as required
  • Landfill permit compliance & reporting
  • Responsible for waste management activities
  • Liaising with DS Smith Recycling (DSSR) to ensure compliance
  • Quality; ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems Standard, and ISO 5000
  • ISO 45001 & ISO 9001 Safety and Quality Standard
  • Compliance; ensure you comply with the relevant legislations (e.g. landfill & hazardous waste)
The role covers four key areas of the business: health & safety, environmental, quality and compliance.

About you
You will need excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.

You will have a good eye for detail and accuracy to help ensure the operation runs smoothly and safely, whilst producing products of the correctquality that meets the customer specification, whilst complying with company environmental standards.


Minimum requirements:

  • Experience of working within an environmental field, including management of EMS and exposure to ISO 5000
  • Experience in waste waste management & landfill.

Preferred requirements:

  • An Environmental related degree or equivalent.
  • Have, or be working towards, Associate Membership of the IEMA
  • COTC would be advantageous
