New Perspectives School is a new small independent SEMH specialist day school for key stage 2-5, catering for students with social emotional and mental health difficulties who may have a range of complex needs.


We are seeking a reliable, experienced, self-motivated
part time
school cook who can work on their own initiative to prepare and cook for pupils at New Perspectives School, whilst also being responsible for the day-to-day management of our Catering facility.

Managing and maintaining a high standard of practice and hygiene in accordance with current quality standards, in all aspects of food preparation, which will contribute to the quality of care of each pupil.


General Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the quality & variety of catering provided, working within the financial and operational standards required and maintaining a high level of service to New Perspectives School.
  • Responsible for food procurement, stock control, maintain a food inventory and monitoring standards to ensure provision costs are in line with budgetary requirements. Ensure that competitive rates are maintained.
  • To prepare, cook in the kitchen providing a resourceful handson approach and manage the daytoday administration of our school catering provision.
  • Ensure all meals are prepared and served on time.
  • Monitor food temperatures to ensure safe food handling practices are followed.
  • Collaborate with school staff to create a diverse and appealing menu that meets the nutritional needs of students to include any dietary needs i.e. dairy free, nut free, gluten free etc, whilst providing healthy options & choice.
  • To be responsible for cleaning of all catering equipment and areas, deep clean when required.
  • Always be prepared for an environmental health visit.
  • Complete daily paperwork in line with HACPP/ Food Safety
  • To be responsible for Health & Safety in relation to staff and catering areas and ensure all requirements of food hygiene, HACPP, food safety and COSHH legislations are operated within the department. Undertake risk assessments for the department as required and promote compliance.
  • Advise on and produce information regarding developments within the catering industry any new regulations that are associated with the food industry.
  • To maintain a positive and welcoming dining atmosphere for students and staff.

Further Responsibilities

  • Maintain an appropriate awareness of and work effectively within the policies and procedures of New Perspectives School, participating in appropriate processes, e.g. Performance development review, ongoing continuous training.
  • To be aware of and work within the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all related legislation and best practice.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years' experience as a cook in a school or similar setting
  • Knowledge of safe food handling practices, nutrition, food safety, meal planning and regulations
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes and instructions.
  • You will have the ability to work in a pressured and timed environment.
  • You will be knowledgeable and understand the importance of 'Pupil Protection and Safeguarding' issues when working in a school setting.
  • You will have the ability to contribute to the development of our school catering provision, and passion and a commitment to work to high standards.
