We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Administrative Assistant who can work as part of a team and on their own initiative to provide general administrative support including arranging meetings, taking minutes, diary management, production of correspondence and has excellent communication skills.


Essential Requirements


Due to the rural location of the services, a valid drivers licence and access to own vehicle is essential for this role.


Working pattern


This is a 16 hour post to be worked over set days/hours with the potential to work around school hours if required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Service Administrator & the wider team to deliver the Child and Family Support Service in the locality.
  • Carry out administration tasks, including reception duties.
  • Working collaboratively with and assisting other team members to ensure consistent and coordinated services.
  • Meet and greet visitors to the centre and treat respectfully and appropriately. Be aware of the importance of confidentiality.
  • Developing relationships with other agencies/organisations when they visit the Centre.
  • Assist in the collection and collation of Children's Centre data, monitoring information and evaluation materials as required.
  • Assist in marketing the Centre as a resource for the community. Updating and posting on social media.
  • Ensuring the Centre promotes equality of access to inclusive services, which are sensitive to the diversity of the local community.
  • Ensuring the safety of children, young people and families using the Centre, protecting, and promoting their rights.

History of Services
The Barnardo's Eden 0-19 Child and Family Support Service is commissioned by Westmorland & Furness Council.

The contract is an Early Intervention service with a 4 tiered approach to meeting the unmet needs of children & young people (CYP) aged 0-19 years and their families.


Barnardo's has been delivering Children's Centre services and activities in the Eden area since the centres were designated in April 2008.

Eden comprises of 2 footprints North & South Eden.

None of these areas are in the top 30% most deprived super output areas but they are known as a 70% Centre and encompasses a mix of rural and urban communities, with pockets of higher need within.


There are 5 Children's Centre buildings within Eden Valley area: Alston, Penrith, Kirkby Thore, Appleby and Kirkby Stephen, of which Penrith & Appleby are identified as hubs.

The Centre at Penrith has staff based here, including Children's Services. We deliver a range of services and activities from the Children Centre bases, a large number of outreach provisions are provided using local community venues and at times, in conjunction with other partner agencies
