The Resuscitation Service supports the clinical care of patients at risk of, or suffering cardiac arrest and other immediately life threatening events.

We do this through clinical, operational, educational, and governance activity throughout the Trust.

As an Assistant Practitioner -Band 4, for the Horton Hospital site, you will work closely with the Resuscitation Practitioner to ensure the site has adequate training and clinical specialist support.

You will be expected to work independently on the days the Resuscitation Practitioner is off duty to ensure continuity in the service.

The role involves visiting wards, teaching basic life support and AED defibrillation (often for several hours per day) collecting data and checking equipment.

You will be required to keep excellent documentation via electronic systems, inputting data and designing checklists and communication aids.


The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.


The post holder will:

  • Work alongside the Resuscitation Practitioners and Resuscitation Trainers delivering Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support +/
  • AED training sessions as per the standardised competencybased lesson plans.
  • Take the lead in preparation of training areas prior to and after all training sessions.
  • Work independently on Horton site when the Resuscitation Practitioner is off duty and within their scope of practice.
  • They will take responsibility for collecting data and following up 2222 events when the site Resuscitation Practitioner is off duty.
  • Will teach small groups or provide one to one sessions on checking resuscitation equipment and defibrillators where needed.
  • They will take responsibility for uploading the Horton training dates onto the LMS on behalf of the HH resuscitation practitioner.
  • Take a lead ensuring that safe systems of replacement resuscitation equipment are available at a local level. Raise concerns to site Resuscitation Practitioners and clinical managers.
  • Attend clinical emergencies alongside resuscitation practitioners providing support and assistance in the management of emergency events. Support clinical staff following events to ensure resuscitation equipment is made ready for use promptly following these events.
  • Work alongside site based Resuscitation Practitioners, liaising with resuscitation link practitioners to ensure resuscitation equipment complies with the Trust standard.
  • Work with the Resuscitation Department implementing new, and evaluating existing procedures. They will assist staff in the location of all clinical resuscitation equipment.
  • The post holder under the guidance of the site based Resuscitation Practitioner will assist in collection of data for relevant audits.
  • Report incidents through the Trust incident reporting mechanism.
