Job Title:
Compliance Specialist

Department:
Laboratories

Location:
Port Talbot, SA13

Salary :
£30,851 + Benefits

Closing Date:
Sunday 20th August 2023

Interviews to be conducted w/c 28th August

  • We believe that our strength is not just in our steel but the diversity of our workforce. Our people make the difference._

The Role
We are recruiting a compliance specialist for our Laboratories function.

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will primarily manage the compliance requirements of the metallurgical laboratory to ensure that the service provided correctly interprets legislative requirements.

Key to this will be monitoring and documenting compliance activities, advising management on compliance matters and liaising with relevant stakeholders with regards to physical testing and chemical analysis for final product release.

The two primary areas of concern will be chemical and mechanical testing certification to ensure compliance with applicable norms and technical specifications as requested by the customer.

The mill test certificate to standard EN 10204 contains test results and is produced independent of manufacturing.

It is validated by the laboratories department to confirm that the product supplied is in compliance with the requirements of the order.

To carry out this role successfully, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Daily monitoring of the 'Coil Containment Report'. This report includes all coils that have been released outside normal specification for mechanical properties, chemistries, coating weights and surface roughness. Any actions arising are to be dealt with promptly to ensure coils are contained and pose no risk to Customer.
  • I.T. enhancements and development projects. Representative for any I.T. enhancements and local I.T. improvement opportunities. This will require assessing the requirement for suitability for the I.T. work 'pipeline', whilst supporting the justification and writing of the 'Business Requirements Document'. Consultation and support for ongoing project activities, including acceptance sign off.

Testing Standards
  • Continual review of Testing and Certification Standards to ensure Laboratory Compliance. This could be in the form of a formal internal audit or standard review. Any issues arising are to be, documented, reported and actioned.

Compliance Consultation
  • Supporting and advising the Laboratory and Customers on Quality compliance related matters. This will include reference to Testing, Laboratory and Product Standards.

Standards Committees
  • Membership of BSi standard groups for the relevant test standards, including Uniaxial testing (Tensile) and Toughness Testing (Charpy Impact).

External Audit accreditations
  • Laboratory Representative for external auditing for business accreditation to UKCA/CE and TS16949.

We are looking for applicants who will be educated to degree (or equivalent) standard in an appropriate science discipline, preferably chartered membership of an appropriate professional institute.

You will ideally have experience of Laboratories operation but knowledge in Chemistry or Metallurgy is essential. The ability to build close working relationships with internal and external customers is a key requirement.

The Benefits
Tata Steel UK offers their employees significant benefits packages.

For this role, you will benefit from:

  • A market competitive salary
  • 35 days holidays per annum
  • Annual Pay Review
  • Private Healthcare Scheme (Individual cover)
  • One of the UK's leading defined contribution pension schemes (10% employer contribution / 6% employee contribution)

We also have an extensive list of lifestyle benefits including free onsite parking at all of our sites, an employee assistance programme as well as Employee discount scheme for companies including Vodafone, Jaguar Land Rover and also various local services.

The Business
Tata Steel is one of the world's top 10 steel producers.

The combined group has an annual aggregate crude steel capacity of more than 33 million tonnes with approximately 80,000 employees across four continents.

We're part of the Tata Group, one of the largest, most diverse conglomerates in the world with businesses in the UK including Tata Steel, Jaguar Land Rover and Tetley Tea.

Sustainability is at the very heart of what we do and we are dedicated to managing our operations responsibly and to continuously improving our performance.
