The Employee Relations Assistant is an exciting new opportunity which has been introduced within our Employee Relations team in HR, reporting to the Employee Relations Manager, who reports to the Head of Employee Relations.

Our drive in Employee Relations is to ensure greater consistency and compliance in our people management practices including casework management.


About the job?


As an Employee Relations Assistant you will play a critical role within the Employee Relations team in HR providing general employee relations guidance.

In addition the role will be responsible for managing and developing our Employee Relations systems and supporting the Employee Relations team through directly assisting with casework as appropriate.


Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To support the Employee Relations team in providing generalist Employee Relations guidance to queries raised by the business
  • To develop and administer our Employee Relations systems, including developing reporting capabilities
  • To assist the Employee Relations Team in casework as appropriate to support the Employee Relations team
  • To provide administrative support to the Employee Relations team
  • Work closely with Employee Relations colleagues, to ensure consistency and best practice across the department
  • Support the Employee Relations team with policy and procedure writing and guidance

You'll need to be:

  • Experienced in administration work, with strong and proven organisational skills, attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Able to multi task, plan and prioritise workload to meet tight deadlines
  • Highly IT literate with excellent Word and Excel skills
  • Proactive in problem solving
  • A team player
  • An excellent communicator both verbal and written, good listener and confident in delivering advice to customers
  • Able to build strong working relationships in and outside of the HR team

As a minimum, you will need to have:

  • Previous experience in HR/ER
  • CIPD qualified/HR equivalent qualification
  • Knowledge and practical experience of HR Procedures, processes and practices, and employment legislation
  • Excellent working knowledge of IT systems

About the location?
The role is based in Swindon/Reading, with flexibility to be able to travel as required across the GWR network.

Working Pattern:
Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
