NUVIA UK are actively recruiting for a Characterisation Consultant Trainee to join our Technical Services & Consulting team. We are seeking individuals to be based out of our Harwell office on a permanent basis.

The role will involve regular travel, once or twice a month to nuclear power stations and other sites, so a driving licence is essential.


The Land Remediation and Characterisation team specialise in the deployment and operation of mobile gamma spectrometry systems to various nuclear and non-nuclear sites throughout the UK and abroad.

In addition, we provide higher level consultancy on various aspects of the waste management lifecycle and land quality.

Reports to:

Report to Principal Consultant

Main Duties:

  • Transport and operation of gamma spectrometry systems in support of decommissioning and remediation programmes of work.
  • Writing technical reports on works undertaken for various customers.
  • Data checking to ensure good quality results are supplied to customers.

Key Accountabilities:

Required Technical Competence:

  • Knowledge of radioactivity.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Occupational Skills and Knowledge:

Essential:

  • Science A Levels or Degree (BSc, MSc or PhD) in a scientific discipline.
  • Driving licence.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Keen to learn on the job.
  • Willing to travel.
  • Good attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Experience of knowledge of gamma spectrometry high and/or resolution.
  • Good technical report writing skills.
  • Commercially aware.
