Ibk is a community based, not-for-profit social enterprise with over 20 years' experience of providing Direct Payment Support to families, children and adults of all ages with a range of needs. We run a successful befriending service, providing bespoke support to young people under 18 to lead happy and independent lives.
IBK are working alongside a family to find a befriender for their 15 year old child. This young person has an autism diagnosis and has also had some significant mental health issues.


The main aim of a befriender will be to support the young person to engage in meaningful activities to build his self confidence, independence and manage his anxiety.

The young person has a range of interests and would love a befriender who shared some of the same passions.

The young person has been out of education and part of the support you offer may also be helping him transition back into education.

This young person loves football and is a big SWFC fan, he also likes basketball and badminton. He'd love to attend 5 a side football with a befriender and also enjoys gaming.

The ideal befriender will be an excellent communicator with a calm but motivating personality.

They will have some mental health and / or support worker experience and be able to offer some flexibility in how the hours are used.

The ideal befriender will be happy to enagage in playing sports too

Essential

  • Experience of supporting someone with autism and mental health issues
  • Willing to learn from the young person and their family
  • Be friendly and reliable
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Be respectful in the family home
  • Be creative in your personal approach
  • Have a genuine desire to enhance the young person's life and boost their self confidence in social situations
  • A car driver

  • An understanding of the nature of this type of support work
  • Things in common with the young person; you may share interests and hobbies which you can share
Hours


12 hours per week ideally to be used across Wednesday, Thursday and at the weekend but there is some flexibility for the right person.
