Nant Bran & St Cadoc's Coffee Outlet_Growing Space is a registered charity.

It was founded in 1992 in response to the Welsh Office All Wales Strategy for Mental Illness, addressing a need for sheltered training and work experience within the community.

Its long-term aim is to provide high quality support and training that would lead to employment.


Growing Space has a track record of providing high quality services, developing user-centred approaches and working in partnership with statutory and third sector bodies to enhance clients' quality of life.


The mission of Growing Space is to improve the mental health and well-being of individuals, families and communities in Gwent.


Purpose:
To develop and implement a Crisis Café Pilot and Barista Coffee Outlet


The development of this Crisis Café and Barista Coffee Outlet will help support people with Mental Health issues, Learning Disabilities and Autism.

The Crisis Café based at our Nant Bran site, Cwmbran and Barista Coffee Outlet based at St Cadoc's Hospital Coffee Shop.


The role of the supervisor will be to work with adults providing training in personal, project and employability skills, to support community integration, with a safe space to access, support with the cost-of-living crisis and provide training in healthy eating linked to how to cook on a budget.

We will be developing our allotment site at Talygarn to increase yield of crops, developing the following to achieve the following:

  • Thriving and busy social spaces offering subsidised food/drink to both the wider public as well as those wanting a safe space to attend, such as support workers and those who are supported by them.
  • Delivery of Barista Training to those interested in the service industry
  • A safe space for those who need additional/crisis support
  • 1:1 practical support alongside social/emotional support
  • A safe space to engage with GS activities/services (art, gardening, volunteering, reading group, social group, weekly games bingo, basic cooking skills etc) with the main focus being on eating healthily while on a restricted budget,
  • Produce low cost healthy meals.
  • Provide Accredited learning

Job details

  • Responsible for innovation and development of a new catering functions for a local charity
  • Responsible for delivering Barista Training and running of the Barista Service
  • Utilise both café areas as a safe space where people can get support and training
  • Motivating volunteers and participants to engage in cooking
  • Develop a catering volunteer pool, providing them with support

Main Tasks

  • Develop an action plan for building a crisis cafe with a catering theme and develop the Crisis Café model, to improve current Food Hygiene rating
  • Establish Barista Outlet at St Cadoc's Hospital
  • To provide information, advice and support as necessary in support of the participant's needs and wellbeing
  • Produce healthy low cost meals for members of the public
  • Supervise training and catering activities carried out by participants in conjunction with other project/sessional staff and volunteers
  • Produce and monitor an individual learning plan/training path for each participant in partnership with other key personnel and organisations
  • To ensure participants have the necessary underpinning knowledge required to achieve accredited units
  • To liaise with other training and support staff to ensure that participants achieve their full potential
  • Plan catering training which can be delivered at all levels ensuring that the training relates to the changing needs of the participants and organisation
  • To assist in the assessment of participants referred through Growing Space/Crisis Café for their suitability to engage in a kitchen environment
  • Liaise with administrative staff as appropriate to ensure that all necessary administrative processes are in place and operate effectively and efficiently
  • Maintain appropriate records and information for use within Growing Space
  • Assess participants during an initial referral period and work closely with other staff to ensure participants progress through the scheme and necessary documentation completed e.g. learning plans
  • Assume responsibility of the maintenance and safety of all equipment (nonmechanical) used in training and for the health and safety requirements of the catering project
  • To conduct and assist in the participation progress reviews and work assessments
  • To enforce and promote good Health and Safety practices
  • To ensure that any information relating to Growing Space, staff, volunteers, participants and funders is kept strictly confidential in
