Residential Home Cook

Small family run Care Home in the centre of Carlisle


We want a cook who will provide nutritious and appetising hot/cold meals for our 19 residents in line with our weekly menu.

The meals provided must take into account the special dietary needs and preferences of our residents. As well as maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen in line with our policies and procedures.

We want someone who has:

  • Experience cooking in a commercial kitchen/care setting
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Satisfactory DBS/references
  • Level 2 food hygiene certificate
  • Full knowledge of safer food better business system

You will be responsible for:

Preparing meals:
in line with the dietary requirements and preferences of our residents. Including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as snacks and special dietary meals as needed.

Planning menus:
with the manager to create a variety of tasty and nutritious meals throughout the week. Allowing for residents' dietary requirements, allergies and ensure all meals are suitable for their needs.

Food Safety:

Follow all food safety and hygiene standards/regulations, ensuring that meals are prepared and stored in a clean and safe manner.

Monitor and record food temperatures regularly.

Inventory Management:

To monitor stock levels and record items that are out of stock or running low on the shopping list to ensure that all items needed are available.


Cleanliness of the kitchen:
To maintain a safe, clean and hygienic kitchen according to the weekly cleaning rota. Follow cleaning schedules and protocols. Rinse crockery and cutlery after each meal, load dishwasher and monitor the temperature levels of fridges/freezers.

Maintaining accurate records:
of meals served, food inventory and any incidents related to food preparation.

Job Type:
Part-time/Permanent (28 hours per week)

Salary:
£10.50 per hour

Schedule:

  • Day shift, 7am14.00 over a 2week rolling rota. Working every other weekend.

Successful applicants are required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure.
