Position

An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Adult Weight Management Specialist Physiotherapist at North West Kilmarnock Area Centre.

What you will do:

We are looking for an experienced Physiotherapist to join our multi-disciplinary team of Dietitians, Clinical Psychologists and Dietetic Support Workers in the development and delivery of a new Ayrshire wide Tier 3 Specialist Weight Management Service. The service aims to meet the needs of individuals living with a higher BMI and associated health and psychological conditions.

You will be to oversee the physical activity component of the service. This will involve close liaison with our leisure providers, identifying training needs and supporting the implementation of changes required to ensure the governance and health and safety standards are met for this population group.

You will also be involved in developing pathways for patients to access the wider physiotherapy services in Ayrshire and Arran and sit on the weight management MDT discussing complex cases, providing your expert knowledge for the physiotherapy management of our service users.

You will be involved in reviewing the content of the core and review programme relating to the physical activity elements and at times may be involved in delivering components of group weight management education programmes.

You will contribute to the ongoing evaluation and development of patient education resources, link in closely with the wider weight management, diabetes prevention, health improvement services and community dietitians and use digital solutions including social media to reach target populations. You will participate in the planning, delivery and supervision of students on clinical placement.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

It is essential you are educated to a BSc Honors degree/postgraduate diploma in Physiotherapy and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. You should have significant post graduate experience with previous clinical experience within group settings. Evidence of competencies and skills required to deliver this post is essential e.g. excellent communication and interpersonal skills, excellent team working, using initiative to overcome challenges.

Hours:

14.8 per week

Driving Licence/Car Ownership:

Car licence/Car ownership is essential to this role. Travel around Ayrshire will be required to deliver the service.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer. If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week (pro rata for part-time staff) until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Ayrshire and Arran is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so
