Role summary:


Were looking for an experienced, meticulous sub-editor and fact-checker to join the Content Team at London Marathon Events (LME) on a fixed-term contract for six months.


You will work as part of a team of four and will be responsible for editing, rewriting, fact-checking and proofing a variety of copy anything from training features to participant newsletters and road-closure leaflets to Event Day signage that supports LMEs vision of Inspiring Activity.

In addition, youll be responsible for writing original copy for some newsletters and other collateral.


Youll have a keen eye for detail and relish the challenge of ensuring all copy adheres to the LME Style Guide.

You will be equally happy rewriting the elite athlete race manual or proofing press releases and marketing copy.

Youll influence new processes and practices to improve the Content Teams ability to handle proofing and content creation efficiently.


Youll also have the opportunity to work across London Marathon Events varied portfolio of world-class running, cycling and swimming events, including the TCS London Marathon and Ford RideLondon festival of cycling.


Responsibilities:

  • Rewriting, editing and proofing copy including features, newsletters and a variety of event collateral (such as elite race manuals, volunteer handbooks and participant Event Day instructions)
  • Ensuring all LME collateral adheres to the LME Style Guide
  • Understanding the customer journey for each of our events and creating newsletters and other content that support the participant from sofa to Start Line
  • Contributing to content planning within the Marketing and Communications Team
  • Supporting LMEs vision of Inspiring Activity

Essential skills and experience needed:

  • Excellent standard of grammar and spelling
  • Meticulous attention to detail and factchecking
  • Proven experience as a subeditor
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Working knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop
  • An understanding of, or an interest in, massparticipation sports events would be an advantage
