The Southwark Wellbeing Hub, run by the national mental health charity, Together for Mental Wellbeing, is the leading advice and information service for people in Southwark concerned about their own mental health or about the mental wellbeing of someone close to them.

We support people to navigate local options of support and to be linked with specialist services which can meet their needs.

Our aims are to support people to make informed decisions; to improve the wellbeing of everyone in Southwark & to support those with mental health needs to manage their wellbeing.

The role of the Peer Support & Volunteer Coordinator will include the ongoing recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers, peer supporters, placement staff to support service users with their longer-term wellbeing journey and in preparation for future employment opportunities.

Your role will also support a programme of workshops and activities to aid the understanding of issues relating to mental health difficulties and developing skills to improve personal wellbeing.

The peer support component will include 1-2-1 and group peer support to people experiencing emotional distress and who would benefit from and want to engage with peer support interventions to aid their recovery goals.

A key component is that these staff use their own direct lived experience of mental health difficulties to support other people.

They will work collaboratively with people within their service, focusing on the person's strengths and personal resources to offer educational, emotional and practical support towards goals that are defined by the person.

You will support Volunteers, Peer Support Volunteers and/or Peer Support Workers to deliver peer support that is grounded in Together's Peer Support and Service User Leadership models, principles and organisational values, whilst drawing on your own lived experience of mental distress to support the implementation, ongoing development and delivery of peer support and volunteering in the service and across Together.

To do this effectively, the Peer Support & Volunteer Coordinator will be an expert navigator of local communities, able to continually build and sustain relationships and partnerships with agencies, universities, professionals, and employers who may use or contribute to the project.

The role of the Peer Support & Volunteer Coordinator involves autonomous, mobile working in the community alongside engagement with a fast-paced team.

This role will require occasional evening and weekend working.
