Nursery Cook

Purpose of the post
The cook will be responsible for the effective operation of the kitchen.

The preparation, cooking and serving of food and beverages, as defined by the Manager of the Nursery; taking into account individual needs of the children, ensuring that our aims are promoted and the general wellbeing of everyone using the Nursery is maintained.

This is a term time position with the hours of 9am pm Monday to Thursday and 9am till 13:15pm on Fridays.


Key areas

  • Maintenance and cleanliness of the main kitchen
  • Preparation of healthy meals
  • Laundry
  • Allergies, Intolerances, Cultural needs

Responsible to

  • Manager/Deputy

General duties and responsibilities:

  • Hold a current food safety training certificate and review and retrain when necessary.
  • Hold current first aid and safeguarding certificates
  • Plan healthy menus alongside the deputy manager
  • Keep the environmental health folder up to date and organised
  • Prepare food in accordance to the menus provided
  • Plan and display a three week rota of menus on the nursery notice board for parents
  • Ensure all staff in the setting are trained to use the kitchen efficiently


Wattisham Airfield Childcare Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, which requires all staff, committee members and volunteers to share this commitment.

Please note due to the nature of this post you will required to undertake an enhanced DBS and 2 references before appointment is confirmed.
