CRY has an exciting new job opportunity

You will be working within an established charity that proactively works to prevent young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research as well as supporting families following a young sudden cardiac death.

We are looking for an Communication Assistant to join our friendly and welcoming team, in providing Communication and Media across various CRY's social platforms and media sources.

You will be a team player, have a great understanding of what it means to be a brand ambassador and flexible in your approach to working.


Purpose of the role:


To assist the CRY Communications team with the production CRY's thrice-yearly 'news and events' magazine - a publication known as the 'CRY Update' (or referred to in-house as simply 'the Update') & digital distribution of it.

Administrative tasks for reports. Also, to assist with other specific Communications projects as required (e.g. producing social media graphics) and to provide general office support as required (e.g. answering phones).

Duties of the role:
Design and production

  • Selecting images for the magazine and preparing them for inclusion (cropping, resizing, saving in correct file format, etc)
  • Designing the layout of sections of the Update magazine
  • Sticking to production schedules / deadlines and liaising with all magazine contributors to ensure that they also stick to deadlines
  • Designing and editing other documents on an ad hoc basis
  • Daytoday monitoring and maintenance of CRY's Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Liaising with the Communications team where any difficult / unusual / important decisions need to be made regarding these accounts.
  • Promoting CRY's publications on social media / scheduling content from CRY's Update magazine
  • Producing Enewsletters and maintaining records of subscribers / unsubscribers.
Website

  • Updating pages on CRYs main website and creating new pages
  • Housekeeping tasks on CRY's other websites: checking content and updates and correcting inaccuracies in information.
Office support / miscellaneous

  • General telephone cover when phones are busy and / or main Receptionists are busy or unavailable.
  • Responding to logo requests from journalists, supporters, etc.
  • Responding to photo requests from Trinity PR.
  • Other Communications projects / tasks at the request of CRY senior management.
  • Minimum of GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Some design / publication qualification and / or related IT qualifications

Preferred:

  • Any additional English or Communications qualifications; any additional IT qualifications.
  • Marketing qualifications.
  • IT / Design / Publishing qualification, such as GCSE (or equivalent), NVQ, Alevel, Degree, etc which includes training in image manipulation, publishing, design / layout, etc.

Experience / Qualities:

Essential:

  • Experience using WordPress as a CMS
  • Good organisational skills able to prioritise tasks and to change priorities as required; manage own workload; work to deadlines; make informed decisions; save documents in a clear and logical manner (archives, working drafts, etc)
  • Excellent general IT skills, including experience and competence in Microsoft
  • Good telephone manner; good interpersonal and team skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Flexible and reliable
  • A 'can do' attitude

Preferred:

  • Experience with Photoshop / InDesign / Canva / Wordpress / Elementor
  • Appreciation of the sensitive nature of CRY's work
  • Calm under pressure; flexible with regards to lastminute changes / rewrites; patient with regards to producing multiple draft versions of an article before final signoff / approval
