Joint Digital Communications Officer

Blackburn, Blackburn with Darwen, United Kingdom East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust Full time

We are looking for a talented Digital Communications Officer for an exciting and unique position across two acute Trusts: Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (BTH) and East Lancashire Hospitals Trust (ELHT).

You will be a proficient digital all-rounder who has a flare for creating engaging and informative content for colleagues and patients, helping to keep them informed about their care and the services we offer.

Key to this role is supporting the implementation of the new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) at BTH, providing hands on support to deliver tailored communications to colleagues and external stakeholders using a content driven approach across various channels.

The EPR implementation forms an integral part of an innovative and exciting transformation programme that will enhance the way our colleagues work and provide patient care.

Working autonomously and as part of both communications teams, you will be comfortable producing video content and creating engaging material for digital channels as well as using content management systems and enhancing the usability of websites.

Reporting to the Joint Head of Digital Communications, the Digital Communications Officer will provide sound, expert advice and input from a general communications and engagement perspective to enable the Trust to support delivery of the aims and objectives as set out in key strategies and plans.

Skilled in digital copywriting, this role will also be key to keeping digital channels maintained and up to date including websites, social media platforms and intranets for both Trusts.

The post holder will also support the Joint Head of Digital Communications to ensure all systems are evolved in line with Trust aspirations and test the user experience across all audience groups, including colleagues, service users and stakeholders.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS FT (BTH) and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) provide high-quality acute secondary healthcare.

The Communications Teams have a unique and progressive take with multiple joint posts and the teams work closely together across both Trusts supporting around 15,000 colleagues and a wider population of almost 900,000 people.

Our joint approach enables us to remove duplication, create greater capacity and maximise our skill sets to concentrate on what really makes a difference.

We are friendly, supportive and ambitious, setting high standards and encouraging each other to try new things, learn and grow every day.

This collaborative approach fits perfectly with the aspirations of the wider NHS both within Lancashire and South Cumbria and nationally.

What this creates is an environment to be big, bold and brave, with the potential to be involved in new and exciting opportunities.

Communication and Engagement
- produce corporate collateral of all descriptions including videos, digital content and more traditional printed materials, liaising with colleagues, internally and beyond the organisation, to ensure documents are appropriate, engaging and reflect the organisations' brands.
- manage and contribute to the development of the 'front-facing' elements of websites, intranets, social media platforms and microsites for both Trusts, keeping them up to date and continuously reviewing and improving them as new technology and techniques emerge.
- provide a copywriting service to the organisations and its partners where appropriate, drafting press releases and quotes, articles for inclusion in corporate and target publications, information leaflets and posters, web content, video scripts, award entries and other corporate documents that arise.
- proactively identify potentially negative or high-profile issues and provide a timely and full brief to the Joint Executive Director of Communications and Engagement, Joint Deputy of Communications and other colleagues on issues as they arise, including suggested actions.
- be responsible for the upkeep of the intranet site to ensure it provides all colleagues with a comprehensive information resource.
- research, write, film, edit, proof and coordinate digital content across all channels
- coordinate and make appropriate responses to social media comments and enquiries.
- ensure activity is properly planned, evaluated and accessible to all - using and promoting a common sense approach, simplicity and 'plain English' across both Trusts.
- deputise for the Joint Head of Digital Communications, providing support and advice to the Joint Executive Director of Communications, Joint Deputy Director of Communications and other senior members and officers on communications issues as required.
- help develop and motivate other members of the team by acting as a role model and offering basic training in key tasks.
- help develop the team to offer the very best communications and engagement consultancy and services to the organisation.
