We are looking for a skilled policy and public affairs professional to join the St Mungo's Policy and Research team. At a time when rough sleeping is high on the political agenda, we are looking for a dynamic individual who can make the most of the opportunity to raise St Mungo's profile among decision makers and political stakeholders and influence policy that has an impact on the lives of people experiencing homelessness.

In the role of Policy and Public Affairs Officer you will contribute to the development of St Mungo's public affairs and policy plans, ensuring that our clients are at the heart of all our influencing work to central and beyond.

You will coordinate public affairs work, creating opportunities to influence national and local government policy; helping achieve our organisational goal to rebuild lives and end rough sleeping for good. Other key responsibilities will include:

  • Organising public affairs activities that support the organisation's overall policy influencing objectives.
  • Working closely with other teams to ensure public affairs activity is timely, consistent and, where appropriate, joined up with other external communications.
  • Maintain a database of up to date policy positions, developed in partnership with the Policy and Research teams and frontline staff, and support with the development of policy positions.
  • You will help design and implement robust and thorough public affairs plans, coordinate a programme of visits and meetings with key stakeholders across Westminster and Whitehall and proactively spot new engagement opportunities will be crucial to this role.

    About you

    We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who will be motivated to build positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and the ability to effectively represent the organisation. We encourage you to apply if you can demonstrate:

    • Your experience of working in a public affairs environment and supporting the development successful public affairs plans.
    • Good problems solving and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing tasks and deadlines.
    • Good understanding of the issues that people experiencing homelessness may face and some knowledge of homelessness policy or other closely related area.
    • Above all we are looking for someone who will be dedicated to the overall aims of St Mungo's and the policy team.

      In this role you will be required to work at least 2 days per week from our Central Office in Tower Hill, London. This allows for training team building, line management and other relationship building opportunities. We support a flexible approach to work with opportunities for agile working for the rest of your week; from home.
