Cardiff, Cardiff, United Kingdom The Army Full time

Deliver legal advice in challenging environments.
Joining the Army Legal Services (ALS) as a Legal Officer offers a stimulating and diverse role. You could handle anything from prosecuting soldiers charged with offences at court martial to advising senior commanders on rules of engagement during operations abroad.

This is a unique opportunity to practice law without the constraints of timesheets or billable hours targets, and to delve into a variety of legal specialisms. Additionally, you'll have the chance to explore the world and acquire post-graduate qualifications.

  • Train at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and acquire fundamental military skills.
  • Study tactics and engage in a range of tasks aimed at enhancing your leadership and command capabilities.

Subsequently, you'll join the Directorate of Army Legal Services for specialized legal training. Here, you'll delve into crucial aspects of law for a Legal Officer, such as the law of armed conflict, discipline and advisory, and crime. You'll also have the opportunity to visit units and headquarters where legal officers operate.

Conclude your training with a three-month assignment with a combat or combat support unit. This provides invaluable insight into the Army and offers a non-legal perspective on life as a junior officer. This phase is essential for gaining a comprehensive understanding of the organization you'll be advising.

Embark on a remarkable journey.
As a Professionally Qualified Officer, you'll kickstart your career in Advisory, Prosecutions, or Operations. No prior experience is necessary - you'll develop adaptable leadership skills through top-tier training at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst. Comprehensive legal education awaits you during your specialized training, with continuous learning opportunities throughout your career.

Post-initial training, your growth continues through thrilling activities like adventurous training (e.g., skiing), international travel, and further study prospects.

Being an Officer is a worldwide adventure. Enjoy 30 days of annual leave each year, along with bank holidays and extra leave post-operations. Benefit from free medical and dental care, cost-effective living arrangements, and complimentary access to gym and sports facilities.

  • Experience a healthy work/life balance.
  • Explore flexible working options (outside of operations or training commitments).
