About the Behavioural Insights Team


The Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) is one of the world's leading behavioural science consultancies, working around the world to improve people's lives.

BIT works in partnership with governments, local authorities, businesses and NGOs in over 30 countries, often using simple changes to tackle major policy problems and deliver improved public services and social outcomes.

BIT was established by the UK government in 2010.

In 2014 it became an independent social purpose company, part owned by the Cabinet Office and innovation agency Nesta, and since 2021 has been entirely owned by Nesta.


The role
The purpose of this role is to curate, manage and update content across Nesta and BIT's external digital landscape.

The role will sit within the digital platforms unit and involve working closely with the wider communications team as well colleagues across Nesta and BIT.


As Digital Comms Officer, you will:

  • Coordinate, monitor and maintain all website content to ensure it is accurate, up-to-date, conforms to our house style and editorial guidelines, and meets usability and accessibility standards
  • Update and maintain all areas of the main Nesta website including key landing pages
  • Help deliver and maintain Nesta and BIT's wider digital portfolio of project and campaign websites, digital tools and apps
  • Be the first point of call for all website content queries and updates
  • Work with the Communications team to bring greater editorial and digital coherence across our channels, also ensuring they have the skills and training to maintain specific areas of the website
  • Advise colleagues on the principles of best practice online content and website management
  • Use tools such as Google Analytics and Hotjar to track and measure the performance of digital content, share insights and use them to inform decisions
  • Help produce and maintain a range of other digital content formats including htmlbased reports, slide decks, Shorthand stories, charts and infographics
  • Work closely with the Head of Digital Platforms and our external web agencies to plan and oversee a continuous programme of website updates and improvements

What we are looking for
An experienced digital content professional with proven experience of managing websites and digital content within a busy communications team.


You will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of digital best practice, including user-centred design, customer experience, accessibility and SEO.

You will have applied this in a professional context, and have proven experience of the technical skills relevant to managing a website and confidence using, and teaching others to use, a range of different open source CMS platforms and digital tools.

Strong interpersonal, relationship-building and problem-solving skills are vital, as is a professional, flexible and collaborative approach to your work.

You will be comfortable working with a range external and internal designers, coders and UX experts to and demonstrate a keen interest in digital product management.
