About us

Kennford Playbox is a rural early years preschool, located on the outskirts of Exeter for 2-4 year olds, rated 'OUTSTANDING' by Ofsted in 2019. A registered charity overseen by a volunteer parent led committee, Playbox has a dedicated team to help children thrive by learning and developing through play. We are entirely run on a "not for profit" basis. This allows us to use all our income to benefit the children attending.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Preschool Manager to join and lead our dedicated and friendly team.

Parents feedback that the strong team Playbox has are dedicated and compassionate. There is a real drive to help each and every child succeed to be the best they can be, not only in an academic way but on a personal level too. Parents feel the staff know the children well and are so easy to come to with any concerns .

We strive to develop a child's natural curiosity and enthusiasm to learn and grow through exploration. Kennford Playbox is place where play begins and learning is fun

The role

As Preschool Manager, you will lead the team and be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the setting to ensure safe, high quality care and education is provided for early years children.

It is essential that you hold a minimum full and relevant Level 3 qualification in early years and childcare and at least two years' recent experience within a nursery or preschool setting. Previous experience in management and a working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage is desirable.

Hours and salary

The post is available on a full or part-time basis from September 2024. With a flexible option to work 4 days week. A minimum 24 hours per week. The post is offered on a permanent basis and the salary is between and per hour dependant on qualification and experience.

Responsibilities

Your role as Preschool Manager encompasses:

Day to day management of the preschool Planning activities, arranging resources and staff rotas Staff management including recruitment, induction, supervision and appraisal. Parent/carer liaison Continuous monitoring of quality, standards, risk, safeguarding and inclusive practice in the setting. Updating parents/carers with their child's progress and behaviour Managing enrolment, payment and government funding Developing and implementing an age appropriate timetable of annual events and activities Monitoring and maintaining the nursery budget Develop a secure environment where children feel safe, can grow confidently and are valued.

Skills we are looking for:

A commitment to obtaining a level 4 qualification in early years and childcare Enthusiasm and commitment to maintaining the highest standards in education and childcare Excellent communication and motivating skills to engage with the children, converse with parents and support staff members A good understanding of the Ofsted requirements and procedures, and have a positive approach to teamwork Creativity, versatility and imagination to engage children and provide educational activities An understanding of the varied needs of children and how to adapt support accordingly to meet their individual needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to progress and develop.
