Job summary

The post-holder will work within the NHS North Cumbria Talking Therapies Service within in North Cumbria. The service provides evidence-based psychological therapies, as recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care excellence (NICE), for individuals with common mental health problems such as mild to moderate depression, anxiety disorders ( PTSD, GAD, panic disorder, health anxiety and OCD) and mild bulimia.

This service is an 8am - 8pm service with some weekend work. We cover North Cumbria and have two main bases in Workington and Carlisle. The post holder will be based in one of these main sites and will be required to work into a number of venues across the locality.

We offer a combination of face-to-face and remote working (telephone and video consultation delivered either from one of our office bases or via home working), this offers the opportunity for increased flexibility and improved work / life balance.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to train in delivering low intensity CBT based psychological therapies. Working in collaboration with the University you will be employed by the service working both clinically at the same time as role involves:

Undertaking weekly training at university Working in service when not in university Organisation and the ability to balance a high clinical caseload with the academic demands of university Study within own time

The role of a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) is to provide high quality, short term, psychological interventions within a Step 2 framework. This involves:

providing CBT informed interventions, including guided self-help treatment . Psycho-educational workshops and computerised CBT (cCBT) to patients experiencing common mental health problems. Complete Triage assessments, identifying most appropriate treatment options and making onward referrals when necessary. Have an active involvement with service development and promotion.

As a Trainee and ongoing within service once qualified you will receive regular Case Management Supervision, Line Management Supervision, Clinical Skills Supervision and further training opportunities, to ensure development of core skills and practice.

The post-holder will provide compassionate care that is based on empathy,kindness, respect and dignity.

The post-holder will work within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.

The service is comprised of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, Counsellors and Employment Advisors. The post holder will work with people from different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.

We provide high quality evidence-based therapy to people with common mental health problems, self-referred or referred by GP's, and work as part of the existing Mental Health service structure across the Trust. Establishing and maintaining appropriate links with both Primary and Secondary care elements of the service.

Working hours per week, arranged flexibly within service hours where service permits. We would consider suggestions of any reasonable working plan to balance service needs and personal preferences.

Job responsibilities

Our highly skilled and dedicated team strives to maintain fidelity to the NHS talking therapies model and provide psychological therapies in line with NICE guidance and according to the national manual. We pride ourselves on keeping our clients at the centre of all that we do. We work hard to ensure our practitioners are supported in meeting these needs as well as developing their own clinical practice. We value and support our team through variety of measures including;

The provision of excellent Supervision, both clinical and management, access to both individual and group supervision frameworks Working alongside a well- established, successful, integrated Employment Advisor service We participate in relevant research programmes aimed at improving services for both staff and patients, staff are encouraged to be part of this, (examples include staff burnout, Self-Practice Self-Reflection).

Patient experience is routinely sought and shared within the team , this influences decision making at every level pertaining to service development. Key service decisions are made at monthly Clinical Governance meetings which involve staff from all areas of the team including patient experience representation.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

For post-graduate route: undergraduate degree or evidence of previous successful study at Regulated Qualifications Framework Level 6 or For undergraduate route: Evidence of ability to study at Regulated Qualifications Framework Level 5; or at Regulated Qualifications Framework level 4 with a supporting portfolio Willing and eligible to apply for registration within 6 months of qualification

Desirable

Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Evidence of working with people who have experienced a common mental health problem Evidence of communicating with individuals from diverse backgrounds Evidence of working within a team environment Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression including the wider impact for the whole person

Desirable

Experience of working in Primary Care settings Worked in a setting where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes Experience of managing own caseload

Skills and competencies

Essential

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients Ability to apply learning in Practice
