More detail about the role Community Day Treatment has historically been held at Community Hospital sites in the Northern areas administering treatments such as Blood Transfusions, Intravenous Immunoglobulins, and similar Infusions to patients in a bid to offer care closer to home.

Patients attending the CDTU benefit from less travelling time as well as Specialist Nurses that can administer tailored individual treatments.

In order to expand the service we offer to more areas within North Devon, we have sourced short term funding under the Acute Hospital at Home (AHAH) service known nationally as Virtual Ward.

This team launched at North Devon District Hospital in January 2023 and is still in its developmental phase.

Part of the plan is that CDTU will help to support AHAH patients requiring IV therapy which can be safely administered in the Community setting.


Virtual ward is a safe and efficient alternative to NHS bedded care which support patients who would otherwise be in Hospital to receive the Acute care and treatment they need in their own home or in the CDTU.

This includes either preventing avoidable admissions into Hospital or supporting early discharge out of Hospital.

The CDTU Unit Administrator will be based within the Torrington and Holsworthy CDTU team in the first instance and will be expected to travel to other community sites as determined by the needs of the service.

It is expected that the CDTU administrator will work closely with the CDTU Hub manager and along with fulfilling all administration tasks will be also required to support with data collection and equipment auditing.

You will need to be able to work as part of a team and have a flexible, adaptable approach as the service develops.


Or it might include days off to study, engage in CPD or rotational placements to help you hone your skills.
