Quality Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quality Engineer to join their Operations Team.

This role is key for the site's Quality Management and operational performance and will report directly to the Quality Manager.


The Quality Engineer should be someone who can challenge the status quo and inspire continuous improvement; an enthusiastic person that likes to ask questions and facilitate problem solving.

You will pro-active in driving to work with the organisation onQuality and Product Safety Culture initiatives and have the ability to support and communicate with colleagues within the wider business.

The role plays a key part in ensuring quality objectives are met.

The Quality Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and implementing all aspects of the Site Quality Management System to improve continually their Northampton plants performance in Qualityand Hygiene.


Main responsibilities of the role

  • Support the Maintenance and improvement of the sitewide Quality Management and Food Safety System (ISO 9001:2015 and BRCGS Packaging).
  • Maintain the Quality Customer Complaint system, coordinate timely complaint reporting and resolution, achieve accurate record keeping and effective reduction in complaints.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis and support quality investigations.
  • Coordinate control of nonconformance, inprocess, finished and returned products including assessment and disposal.
  • Undertake testing and collection of data for statistical analysis and generate reports.
  • Coordinate the internal audit plan. Conduct and issue internal audits of standards, processes, Good Manufacturing Practice, Housekeeping and Hygiene, perform traceability and recall tests; identify non
- conformance and opportunities for improvement.

  • Host/facilitate Third Party Audits.
  • Support customers with quality issues and enquiries.
  • Maintain and assist with the review and improvement of QMS controlled documentation.
  • Support the training and development of employees with Quality and Food Safety requirements; assist with the development and continual improvement of our Product Safety and Quality Culture.
  • Coordinate Calibration and verification of quality testing equipment and maintain the Calibration Register.
  • Support the management of Cleaning and Pest Control Contractors.
  • Deputise for the Quality Manager to meet business demands.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is Essential but not necessarily in the Cardboard Industry.
  • Competent Microsoft Office user (Essential).
  • Conversant with ISO 9001 and/or BRCGS standards (Essential).
  • Internal or lead Auditor trained (Essential).
  • HACCP/HARA experience (Desirable).
  • Understanding of 8D, FMEA, 5Why and other quality tools (Desirable).
  • Able to prioritise workload independently and demonstrate initiative.
