Supporting our frontline safety representatives to deliver on safety and environmental measures by providing vision, practical suggestions and assistance in the delivery of our safety agenda. The main purpose of the role will be to assist the safety representatives to deliver the safety and environment plans for their workplace and positively challenge thinking and priorities, acting as a sounding board on the delivery method and initiatives underway. The role acts as a coordinator throughout the business sharing examples of good practice to replicate safety and environmental practices so that there is a consistent approach across our business. The role is an ambassador of the safety and environment agenda at Stagecoach East Midlands and therefore strives to offer an exceptional experience to stakeholders, colleagues and ultimately an improved customer experience for passengers and the public.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Building proactive relationships with all internal stakeholders, particularly safety representatives, engineering and operations managers.

2. Supporting the SEM senior team in the facilitation of our safety forum (safety strategy group) and our Safety Always agenda.

3. Assisting our depot management teams in identifying trends and reducing our safety, environmental and wellbeing risks by independently challenging the safety focus, initiatives and planned action focus at each garage.

4. Participate in Depot H&S and environmental meetings.

5. To compile communication briefs in relation to safety for SEM senior team to sign.

6. Undertaking analysis of safety initiatives/data to evidence outcomes which will help the conversation with our colleagues and support a further rollout at other locations.

7. Participating in garage roadshows to support the local safety representative to share our safety messages.

8. Completion of Safety Run outs/Run in Checks and Safety Stewardships.

9. Compiling a quarterly report on all workplace based safety and environmental actively to monitor our local activity and messages to our people.

10. Ensure our documents, policies and processes housed on Blink in relation to the scope of the role are current and identity any areas where additional information may be helpful.

11. Identify nominations each month for Star of the Month – particularly in relation to the category "safe and sound".

12. Flexible working between East Midland sites, flexibility is also required due to the nature of our business and therefore weekend/and evening work may be applicable

13. Support any newly acquired depots or newly appointed managers on safety processes, practise and compliance – including periodic safety audits to focus the depot management team on their adherence to H&S compliance.

Personal Specification:

· Effective communication skills both written and verbal as you will need to be effective with people at all levels and in varying roles

· Be a team player and have the ability to influence behaviours – taking people with you and winning over hearts and minds is crucial

· A commitment to self-development and others

· Word and Excel competence

Experience & Education:

· Evidence of working effectively in an operational safety environment is essential as is exposure to the delivery of bus operational safety initiatives.

· A foundation understanding of H&S legislation such as: the H&SAW Act

· Work towards being a 'Member of the institute of occupational safety and health' accreditation as knowledge and understanding of risk assessments and safe systems of work (SSOW) are essential.
