Job Purpose:
To provide First Aid support for all accidents and emergencies which may occur in school. To provide assistance and support to all pupils with medical needs

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

First Aid and Well-Being

  • To act as the lead first aider in school for students, staff and visitors
  • To ensure and arrange regular training for the school's first aiders, ensuring their certificates are kept up to date and that the school has the required amount of first aid trained staff
  • To support and advise school first aid trained staff as required
  • To summon expert and emergency help as necessary, ensuring that students going to hospital are appropriately accompanied and parent/carers informed
  • To maintain statutory first aid, student and staff injury/illness records including accident forms, CPOMs and reporting to RIDDOR as required
  • Maintain a list of students with specific health conditions (for example, diabetes, epilepsy, anaphylaxis, allergens etc) with appropriate paperwork (IHCPs (Individual Healthcare Plans) and liaise with parents/carers regarding day to day care of their child/ward's condition(s) and appropriate action to take in the event of an incident /accident.
  • Update the school's 'Supporting Children with Medical Conditions Policy' (reviewed and approved every three years).
  • To regularly review and update students' IHCPs and PEEPs (Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans)
  • To regularly review first aid records in order to inform relevant staff of any patterns which may have developed with students seeking first aid support
  • To liaise with parent/carers about medical issues and first aid incidents pertaining to their child(ren)/ward(s)
  • To maintain first aid kits throughout the school, ensuring replacement supplies are ordered as and when required, to ensure kits are always up to date
  • To ensure that members of staff leading educational trips are equipped with the necessary first aid items relevant for the trip
  • Ensure the school allocated first aid bay is in good order and equipment is stored correctly and cleaned/sanitised regularly
  • To coordinate all arrangements to support students with ongoing medical conditions and administer medication where required where the relevant permissions have been given from parent/carer.
  • To ensure the safe and secure storage of all student medication, maintaining up to date records of all medication stored, along with expiry dates etc.
  • To assist the school nursing team with arranging immunisations
  • Hold termly first aid meetings, to keep all firstaid trained staff up to date with changes to guidance/policies/student and staff medical conditions etc.
  • Meet with the school's Health & Safety consultant as and when required
  • To ensure all required risk assessments are completed, reviewed and updated
  • Where necessary, assist with onsite vaccination requirements and in school testing

Student Welfare / Support

  • To be available and approachable to students who need support during the day.
This support will include but is not be limited to:

  • Supporting daytoday operational issues for students, such as missing uniform, timetables, ClassChart codes etc.
  • Managing lost property and responsibility for securing valuables.
  • Supporting with the uniform recycle scheme; issuing replacement uniform as required.
  • Managing the school's confiscation procedure including:
  • storing items securely and distributing in accordance with policy
- informing Form Tutors/Heads of Year and updating systems with detentions as required

  • Supporting students with requirements for hygiene products, makeup removal wipes etc.
  • Be part of the administration team, providing admin and reception support as required
  • Liaising with the school counsellors regarding visits and assisting with ensuring students attend their appointments
  • To ensure the delivery of messages to students following phone calls from home.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information acquired in the course of undertaking duties for the school in this role
