This role is fixed term until July 2023

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver English and maths skills with understanding of individualised, identified support needs from reading EHC plans and targets.
  • Contribute ideas to the team curriculum and session planning
  • Contribute to assessments of work and reporting on progress including tracking documentation and recording of evidence.
  • Deliver with the guidance of the teacher innovative, high quality learning experiences; involving high levels of differentiation and progressive use of technology resources.
  • Specifically support transition of learners from Access to College into maths and English programmes as suitable to individual learner needs.
  • Support those students who have missed whole class learning, through for instance reduced timetables or anxiety of being in whole class settings, by taking separate additional support sessions under the teacher guidance.
  • Support those students preparing for exams with additional revision, catch up or exam practice sessions tailored to individual or small group requirements.
  • Provide exam support to students during actual exams and live assessments.
  • Support for Student internship learners with formal qualifications in English and maths or other specific needs.
  • Participate in the general support needs and wellbeing of learners around college in line with learning support manager guidance.
  • Participate in staff training and development within the requirements of the College's programmes and priorities.
  • The post-holder will be expected to become familiar with the technological support available to students with visual impairment and other learning difficulties.
  • Promote the aims and ethos of the College both within the teaching and learning context and within the corporate life of the College.
Perform such other duties as are commensurate with the status and nature of the post.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
1 To have minimum grade C GCSE English/maths.

2 To have a trained Learning Support qualification.

3 To have Literacy and Numeracy qualifications level 2 minimum.


4 To have previous experience of SEN learners with Moderate Learning Difficulties and be able to provide the associated approaches and strategies.


5 To have previous experience of small steps, individualised approaches to curriculum and differentiation of materials and concepts and the tracking & review of achievements.

6 To have previous experience of learners who have difficulties with emotional regulation.

7 To have a positive approach to managing the behaviour of learners with moderate to severe learning difficulties.


8 To be flexible, able to contribute to a wide range of learning situations and integrate ICT into all aspects of their work.

9 To be able to contribute effectively and professionally within a multi
- disciplinary teamwork environment.

10 To demonstrate awareness of a wide range of learning environments and of different training and learning strategies.
