Exciting Opportunity: Behaviour Mentor

We are currently seeking dedicated Behaviour Mentors to join an Ofsted good secondary school in Rusholme. This is a full-time position available to start in September, with the opportunity for the role to become permanent based on performance and school requirements.

Role Overview:

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting students to overcome behavioural challenges and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with individuals and groups of students, providing mentoring, guidance, and intervention to promote positive behaviour and foster a supportive learning environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Behaviour Management: Implementing effective behaviour management strategies and techniques to support students with challenging behaviour, promoting a culture of respect, responsibility, and cooperation within the school community.
  2. Individual Support: Providing one-to-one mentoring and support to students with behavioural difficulties, helping them to develop self-regulation skills, manage emotions, and make positive choices in their behaviour and interactions with others.
  3. Group Interventions: Facilitating group sessions and workshops focused on developing social skills, conflict resolution strategies, and emotional resilience among students, promoting positive peer relationships and communication skills.
  4. Collaboration: Working collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other support staff to develop and implement personalised behaviour support plans for students, ensuring consistency and continuity of support across different settings and contexts.
  5. Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitoring the progress and behaviour of students, collecting relevant data, and providing regular feedback to teachers and senior leaders to inform intervention strategies, support plans, and individual education plans (IEPs).
  6. Crisis Intervention: Responding promptly and effectively to crisis situations, de-escalating conflicts, and providing immediate support and intervention to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with young people in a similar role, such as a behaviour mentor, youth worker, or teaching assistant, is desirable but not essential.
  • A genuine passion for supporting the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of young people and a commitment to fostering positive relationships and environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Resilience, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure, with a proactive and solution-focused approach to managing challenging behaviour and resolving conflicts.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team and respond effectively to the diverse needs and backgrounds of students and families.
