Pastoral Care has become a vital service within education. At Smile Education Northwest we have seen a significant demand for this provision across all of our schools. They are focused on providing support mentoring and care for the physical and mental wellbeing of their students.

We are proud to be working alongside a busy secondary school setting based in north Manchester to support in the recruitment of a Pastoral Mentor.

Within this role you will operate a centralised student support hub, offering mentorship and counselling to students who may not have that support outside of school hours.

The successful applicant will be working closely with the Pastoral Lead and Deputy Headteacher, co-ordinating the support provision to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and by extension raising standards of behaviour across school.

This is a pivotal role within the school which offers the successful applicant a varied and fluid role which can grow with them.

Applicants will also be responsible for monitoring some attendance, making home visits where required and working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.

What to expect from applicants?

We would like applicants to have a background in managing caseloads.

Applicants from backgrounds such as Family Liaison, Social Services, Social, Care, Support Workers, Police and Prison Service are encouraged to apply, along with anyone from a similar background.

Applicants should be confident in their approach to managing behaviour and feel comfortable with making home visits to pupils family or carers where required.

Applicants must be confident in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, making referrals to various third party teams where necessary.

Graduates from degrees such as Social Work are also encouraged to apply.

To be successful in your application, you should have experience in one or more of the following:

  • A background in a similar transferrable field, such as Social Care, Support Work, or even Prison and Probation Service. Recent graduates from similar degree fields are also encouraged to apply.
  • Confident in approach to managing behaviour and tackling difficult subjects in an open and respectful manner
  • Able to manage a caseload effectively and provide support to pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Comfortable in making home visits where necessary.
