Support Worker in St. Neots PE19

About the service user

A 7-year-old autistic boy, who is verbal, but struggles with transitions and following an adult-led agenda, he can show aggressive behaviours if he feels unsafe.

His fine and gross motor skills are impaired, and he is resistant to learning following school trauma. He needs support to understand 'normal' social/emotional interactions and has sensory needs (sound, touch, body awareness)
He enjoys jokes, playing creatively with Lego (making 'goodie/baddie' worlds), swimming and can enjoy outdoor exploring. He likes to take on a 'explainer' role and explain games or how to do things to adults. He loves making dens and jumping games.
Hours and rate of Pay

5.5 hours per month (preferred as 2 x Saturday mornings per month) - £12 per hour + 5.6 weeks pro rata holiday.

An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.
What you would be doing

Initially relationship building in the family home - sharing an interest in iPad games (worldcraft, plants vs zombies, bloons, bad piggies) and Lego based play.

Supporting increased attention, reduced iPad time, play outside and following adult suggestions within established play.

It is very important that you are friendly and cheerful, you will also need to be flexible and punctual.

Someone that is happy, patient and willing to be interactive, you will be encouraging in order to improve and develop skills.

You must have excellent spoken English to adapt to his needs with reduced, simple language and pauses to aid processing.

It is desirable that you have worked with children of this age and a similar spectrum of autism.
