Experienced Detective Constables - Transferring into Public Protection

Salary - Basic salary, plus London Allowances and London weighting totalling £8,224, free tube travel on London underground and subsidised national rail travel.

The Met is transforming how we protect the public from harm, combatting violence against women and girls. We are reforming public protection to counter London's most harmful predators. This is a once in a generation opportunity for detective constables to transfer direct into this specialism, at a time of unprecedented growth and be a part of the change.


We are looking for officers to join a public protection team based across London in one of our 12 Basic Command Units.


In the Met our Public Protection teams cover a wide range of offences - but with one thing in common protecting the most vulnerable and bringing predatory offenders to justice.

Our teams investigate and specialise in - child sexual and criminal exploitation; domestic and elder abuse; stalking; rape and sexual offence; child abuse; and the management of violent and sexual offenders living in the community.

You'll get a full induction to the Met and specialist training in public protection. This may include

  • Modern Slavery Investigations
  • Specialist Child Abuse Investigators Development Programme (SCAIDP)
  • National Investigators Safeguarding Exercise and Child Exploitation
  • Specialist Sexual Assault Investigator Development Programme (SSAIDP)
  • Community Safety Unit (CSU)
Other courses required to effectively carry out your role will also be made available (PNC, PND etc). There will be highly experienced and skilled officers around you who will always be there to help or assist.

Application and selection process
As you're already an experienced detective constable - which speaks volumes - our selection process is simple.


We'll check you meet our eligibility criteria - if you're a current serving detective constable who is meeting the day-to-day requirements of their role, and have successfully completed your 2 year probationary period with your current force, you'll likely have no issue here.


You will be invited to attend a face to face interview with our resourcing team and then with our public protection specialists.


Pay and benefits

Pay


Constable pay scales are dependent upon current police force plus a wider package consisting of basic salary plus allowances and London weighting totalling £8,224, free tube travel on London Underground and subsidised National Rail travel.


Discounts and subsidies, including travel
Transferring officers have access to an oyster card (at nil cost) which allows unlimited travel on all TfL services.

You will have access to our zonal travel scheme.

The terms and prices of the zonal travel scheme do vary and are priced based on the distance that you live from London.


In addition, you'll have access to a wide range of discounts and special deals with major high street stores, retail outlets and other organisations nationwide.


Leave
You can expect up to 38 days of paid holiday, inclusive of bank holidays, dependent on length of service. Plus special leave for life events.
