GP with Extended Role, Buckinghamshire Adult Eating Disorder Service

For this newly established role, we are seeking a GP who is looking to diversify and specialise in eating disorders on a part-time basis.

The postholder's main responsibilities will be related to the comprehensive monitoring and management of the physical health of adult patients with an eating disorder. A keen interest in eating disorders and in developing the necessary specialist expertise is essential for all applicants. Specialist training will be provided to the successful candidate, who will enjoy excellent ongoing support and supervision from our specialist team.

The successful candidate will work alongside the service's Psychiatrist and Nurse Consultant.

Main duties of the job

The specialist adult eating disorder service in Buckinghamshire provides a stepped care, integrated multidisciplinary evidence-based treatment approach. The Service has also recently launched the FREED initiative and we are working toward introduction of the PEACE pathway, which is already well embedded in our CAMHS ED Service.

Job responsibilities

Medical Assessment and Monitoring

To provide an assessment of physical health risk as part of the multi-disciplinary assessment team. This will include arranging and interpreting appropriate physical investigations.

To contribute to multidisciplinary assessments, care planning, clinical reports, and referral to other appropriate agencies/services.

To provide assessment feedback to patients and appropriate professionals.

To provide health education advice for clients following the medical assessment/review.

To provide ongoing monitoring of physical health disorder symptoms during the patients time in treatment

To provide end-of-treatment assessment reports to patient and relevant professionals

Medical Treatment

To provide medical treatment recommendations for patients with physical health comorbidities. The patients own GP will be responsible for prescribing.

To refer to appropriate agencies for further medical assessment reatments as necessary.

To contribute to the development of innovative medical services, therapies and treatment protocols for patients with an eating disorder in conjunction with other professionals.

To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients in collaboration with the MDT.

To provide specialist consultation, training, supervision and guidance for staff groups and individuals as appropriate.

To be sensitive to confidentiality and ethical issues as outlined in policies and procedures distributed by the Trust and professional body.

Qualifications
Essential

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment.

Desirable

MRCGP Additional cliniIn good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on qualifications or courses related to eating disorders. Entry on the GP Performers List.

CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential

Practical experience as a Primary Care Practitioner Excellent clinical skills with a specific emphasis on assessing and managing the physical health needs of patients with an eating disorder. Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty. Ability to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary framework.

Desirable

Experience of working with patients with eating disorders and their families across the age range.
