At the Environment Agency we are looking for a Business Planner for our Regulated Industry Teams to provide technical business leadership for our operational planning in the Hertfordshire & North London Area (HNL)

  • The role will involve:
  • Understanding our key activities, performance indicators and workforce capabilities in order to translate this into an achievable work plan for the teams.
  • Consider incoming schemes of work against area priorities and allocate resource accordingly, providing quality assurance using a risk based approach.
  • Provide a yearly overview and regular updates of individuals work delivery to management team, improving performance.
  • Check in with coordinators/sector leads to pick up on any resourcing/delivery issues and find ways to resolve.
  • Managing national and local requests for resources.
  • Use time recording to understand where resources are being spent, assess whether this matches with area priorities and reporting these to the management team.
  • Mentor and coach team members on policies, procedures, practices and techniques equipping them with the knowledge and skills to deliver their work in an effective manner.
  • Contribute to the development of Environment Agency policy/process at national/local level, monitor and advise on effective implementation in the business, in line with environmental targets.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

  • You will report directly to the Area Environmental Manager for Regulated Industry and work across our waste, installations and enforcement teams in HNL. You will be a key member of the RI Business Group leadership team and work with Team Leaders and officers to support the area deliver priorities. You will lead elements of the Regulated Industry Business Board in HNL, working with colleagues around the country in similar roles to share skills and experience.
Experience/skills required

  • We are looking for someone who has:
  • Evidence of planning and implementing actions to achieve corporate and environmental objectives.
  • Experience of influencing external customers and internal colleagues and of delivering results.
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring others.
  • Able to provide technical business leadership to colleagues, influencing decision making and setting the agenda for the waste portfolio in the area.
  • Strong team working skills to galvanise a dedicated and inclusive work plan.
  • Experience of previous business planning would be required.
A full driving licence is required and transport for business use will be provided.
