We now have a vacancy for a full time, Band 2 Ward Clerk to work in Ophthalmology at Rochdale Infirmary.

The position is currently Mon

  • Friday but from April 2023 we will work over 7 days and there will be weekend working.
The hours will be over 4 days, initially Mon

  • Fri but after April 2023 over 7 days including weekends
08: x 3 with 45 min break

08:00 - 17:45 x 1 with 45 min break

Ward clerks provide administrative support to the ward.

This includes answering telephone calls, updating confidential patient data, making appointments, supporting the casualty clinic receptionist, recording attendance to clinics, and making sure doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, have access to patients' medical records.


  • Act as ward receptionist and greet patients and visitors, including those with communication difficulties, on arrival to the ward in accordance with Trust standards and expectations.
  • Ensure that patients are shown to designated waiting areas and given information packs and/or leaflets where applicable.
  • Ensure that patient's notes and other documentation are prepared as necessary, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • After appropriate training, take responsibility for accurate data entry and retrieval via computer e.g., P.A.S., Casenote tracking, Open eyes, radiology and pathology and other systems.
  • Ensure that discharged patient notes are returned promptly to appropriate secretaries or medical records department, including case note tracking.
  • Arrange follow-up appointments if required.
  • Ensure that patient admission documentation is maintained appropriately and that a record is kept of clinical activity, as required.
  • Ensure that stationery/supplies are ordered as necessary.
  • Ensure that patient's notes are made available prior to admission.
  • Ensure that information is relayed appropriately to the multi-professional and/or multiagency teams to ensure the safe discharge and follow-up of patients.
  • Report/requisition broken or faulty equipment and furnishings within the ward/department
