The Children in Care team provide Social Work services to children and young people who are in the care of North Somerset Council and have a care plan to remain in care on a long-term basis.

Our team work closely with the Fostering Service, Leaving Care Service and Virtual School.

We are looking for a Team Manager who have the necessary skills, experience, and motivation to promote positive outcomes for children in care.

You will be the Team Manager for a team of Social Workers who work with children and young people who are in care and whose care plan is long term care.

You will line manage social workers and supervise the work of the team for example completion of assessments, care planning and therapeutic interventions to support children in care, as well as chairing Strategy Meetings when required as well as a range of other multi agency meetings.

You will also support social workers to ensure all our children in long term care are permanently matched to long term carers through regular reviews within Permanence Panel in collaboration with the Head of Corporate Parenting.

You will work collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families.

You will be supported by a strong and consistent management team and will receive regular supervision and training and development opportunities.

Ensuring statutory childcare duties are met, national minimum standards and regulations are complied with, high standards of recognised professional practice are delivered, and operational staff and supervisors work effectively with partners from other agencies to support individual children and families and improve their life chances.

Delivering the area of responsibility assigned to the postholder through the effective deployment of staff and other resources to meet the standards required and ensure children and young people have a positive experience in the care system and successful outcomes.

Implementing the Council's policies in relation to HR issues including equalities, discrimination and harassment and health & safety.

Managing and supervising a team of staff, being responsible for the appropriate allocation of work and promotion of a manageable workload including an expectation that all staff undertake a caseload and project work (eg group work, consultation, student supervision as required), utilising a range of interventions.

Ensuring regular staff supervision and performance appraisal, coaching and facilitation to enable staff to work effectively.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

Be a qualified Social Worker (with a Social Work England Registration) with a passion for working with children and their families to help improve their outcomes and to keep them safe from harm using a strengths-based approach.

Have sound knowledge of relevant childcare legislation, including a clear understanding of 'Working Together to Safeguard Children' and fostering regulations and legislation.

Have an ability to build effective relationships with children, young people and families.

Develop purposeful and productive outcome focused relationships with children, young people, and their parents/carers based upon partnership and mutual respect.
