Job Introduction

We are seeking a kind, caring and suitably qualified learning support assistant to work as part of the Learning Support Department for The Edinburgh Academy Junior School and Nursery.


Working under the direction of the Head of Learning Support and the Headteacher, your role will be to assist with the implementation and delivery of the curriculum for children requiring additional support.

Main Responsibilities
The detail below lists the main responsibilities of this role. It is not an exhaustive list of tasks.

  • To support identified pupils as directed by the Head of Support for Learning. This may vary in terms of the number of pupils depending on identified need.
  • To work collaboratively with the class teacher in the classroom setting and/or work with smaller groups/individuals.
  • To consult with class teachers to monitor progress.
  • To liaise with parents as appropriate and as directed by the Head of Support for Learning.
  • To assist with the formation of learning profiles for individual children as required.
  • To liaise with external agencies and implement plans or recommendations as appropriate.
  • To advise on the success of additional support materials and strategies for children with individual learning differences, such as A.S.D.
  • To foster good working relationships with pupils and colleagues in all aspects of school life.
  • To attend and participate in staff meetings and inset sessions as required.
  • To support the running of the school by preparing resources and learning environments.
  • To demonstrate a commitment to ongoing CPD and changes in current legislation.
  • To demonstrate a willingness to become involved in the extracurricular programme
  • To supervise pupils at playtimes and mealtimes.
  • To eat with and supervise a group of children at lunch.
  • To carry out any reasonable additions to this list as deemed necessary by the Headteacher.

About the school/organisation
The Edinburgh Academy is a fully co-educational school. The School consists of a Senior School, Junior School and a Nursery Department. The School is a member of HMC. The Edinburgh Academy moved to full co-education across the whole school in 2008.

The Junior and Senior Schools are on separate sites, both of which have spacious grounds and sports facilities including extensive playing fields, an all-weather sports area, and a large Sports Hall and Centre.
