Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, United Kingdom Graceland Nursing Home Limited Full time

Purpose of role

To support our residents with all aspects of their day to day living, so they are able to enjoy the best possible quality of life.

You will work as part of a team within one of the units of our 70 bedded care home. Providing care and support can be challenging at times, however, it can also be extremely rewarding. Compassion, good communication skills and a calm and caring manner are essential for this important role in our company.

Key responsibilities
To provide safe, reliable, compassionate care and support to meet the individual needs and wishes of each resident.

Each person is unique therefore you must respect each customers' choice about how their care and support is given and promote their dignity at all times.

As part of our team it is essential to report any changes or causes for concern to nursing staff promptly.

You need to be clear about when to seek help and advice in order to keep our residents safe and promote their well-being.

Duties

Care and support
Give anti-discriminatory care and support that values the whole person rather than merely seeing a list of care needs.

Carefully listen and observe how each resident prefers their care and support to be delivered on a day to day basis.

Help them make their own decisions so they can be as independent as possible.

Follow the instructions in the care plan that has been agreed with each resident

This may include:

  • All aspects of personal care such as showering and bathing, dressing and grooming, dental hygiene, toileting and continence care
  • Administering medicines as prescribed.
  • Supporting the resident to eat and drink well. For example, assisting the resident to order from the home's daily menu in accordance with their stated likes and dislikes, or assisting residents to eat using adapted cutlery or any other means of support
  • Safely using aids and personal equipment in a manner that respects the dignity of customers. For example walking frames, wheelchairs, manual and electric hoists, sliding sheets, hearing aids and other physical aids
  • Some domestic work such as tidying, washing floors, vacuuming and sweeping, making beds and changing the linen
  • Social and physical activities or mental stimulation such as keeping in touch with friends/relatives, taking a resident to social activities that may be going on inside or outside of the home, supporting residents to maintain hobbies such as reading, painting, listening to music, taking part in games, etc.
  • Supporting a resident through temporary and terminal illness, including end of life care, hospital appointments, liaising with other health professionals and families

Record and report

  • The care and support that you provide along with a record of any social activities
  • All charts that may require to be updated to ensure that certain aspects of resident's health are monitored
  • Administration of all medicines using the home's EMAR system
  • Changes to a resident's condition or other concerns e.g. faulty equipment or hazards throughout the care home
  • Response to emergencies, accidents, incidents and safeguarding matters
  • Contact with families, representatives or carers and other professionals
  • Other matters as required by Graceland Nursing Home's procedures
  • Keep all information about residents and their relatives secure and confidential except where policy requires you to share, to protect the interests of our residents

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Follow Graceland Nursing Home's policies, procedures and guidance at all times
  • Take part in staff, resident and relatives meetings when required
  • Attend training activities, supervision and appraisal meetings
This list is not, exhaustive and you may be asked to carry out additional duties. We will provide you with full training in line with regulatory requirements.

All staff are required to wear a mask throughout their shift, take part in weekly testing cycle and to consider taking part in the COVID-19 vaccination programme.
