Main duties of the job

Therapeutic Services:

Provide complementary therapies such as massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, reiki,and relaxation techniques to patients in the inpatient unit and at home through theHospice at Home service. Tailor therapy sessions to meet the individual needs and preferences of patients,considering their physical condition, emotional state, and treatment goals. Patient Assessment and Care Planning: Conduct initial assessments and consultations with patients to determine theirsuitability for complementary therapies and develop personalised care plans incollaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Monitor patient progress and adjust therapy interventions as needed to addresschanges in symptoms, pain levels, and overall well-being.

We began offering Day Hospice services in 1994, and have grown over the years to nowprovide a 14 bed Inpatient Unit alongside our Hospice Community Team who provide carein the community. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work together to providepalliative care that incorporates psychological, physical, social and spiritual support to helppatients and their families achieve the very best quality of life, both at home and in theHospice.

Job responsibilities

Therapeutic Services:

Provide complementary therapies such as massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, reiki,and relaxation techniques to patients in the inpatient unit and at home through theHospice at Home service. Tailor therapy sessions to meet the individual needs and preferences of patients,considering their physical condition, emotional state, and treatment goals.

Patient Assessment and Care Planning:

Conduct initial assessments and consultations with patients to determine theirsuitability for complementary therapies and develop personalised care plans incollaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Monitor patient progress and adjust therapy interventions as needed to addresschanges in symptoms, pain levels, and overall well-being. Patient Education and Support: Educate patients and their families about the benefits and potential risks ofcomplementary therapies, providing information and guidance to help them makeinformed decisions about their care. Offer emotional support, active listening, and empathetic presence to patients duringtherapy sessions, creating a safe and supportive environment for healing andrelaxation.

Collaborative Care Coordination:

Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team, including nurses, social workers,therapists, and chaplains, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for patients and theirfamilies. Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and care planning sessions to shareinsights, recommendations, and updates on patient progress.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate and confidential records of therapy sessions, assessments, andpatient progress notes in accordance with professional and regulatory standards. Prepare reports and updates on therapy activities, outcomes, and trends for review bythe senior leadership team. Person Specification

Personal Qualities

Essential

Commitment to professional development and continuing education in complementary therapies and palliative care. Deep empathy and compassion, understanding the sensitive nature of hospice care and its impact on patients, families, and staff. Flexibility and adaptability to navigate changes and challenges within the fundraising environment. Full UK Driving Licence

Qualifications

Essential

Certification or qualification in complementary therapies such as massage therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology, reiki, or similar modalities required. Minimum of two years of experience providing complementary therapies in a healthcare setting, with experien

Experience working in a hospice environment, understanding the unique needs and challenges of this setting.

Skills / Abilities

Essential

Strong interpersonal skills and empathy, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with patients and their families. Knowledge of complementary therapy techniques, contraindications, and safety precautions, with the ability to adapt interventions to meet individual patient needs. Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

Desirable

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
