We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated person to join our team as an Health Care Assistant/ Administrator within Sexual Health/HIV at Trafalgar Clinic, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich.

Main duties of the job

This role combines both clinical and administrative responsibilities within the department. Please check the job description attached.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities include:
Reception/Administrative Duties

Chaperoning

Phlebotomy

Maintaining a safe environment

Sexual health Microscopy

Contribute to the assessment of a patient

Helping smooth running of the Department

Take on roles and responsibilities as per Service need

Support the general day to day administration of the clinic by:

  • Ensuring all clinical trolleys and clinical areas are well stocked to agreed stock levels.
  • Patient areas are kept welcoming with up to date information displayed on notice board and well stocked leaflet racks.
  • Ordering and stocking of medicine supplies according to agreed processes.
  • Helping to set up and stock the lab or slide preparation area.
  • Liaising with senior nurse and clinic coordinator to ensure stock levels in clinic are maintained.
  • Putting away stock when delivered to the area, ensuring stock rotation.
  • Order leaflets and stationery or other items as required, keep leaflet racks tidy and with up to date leaflets.
  • Reporting and recording any potential hazards and equipment repairs.
  • Process patient specimens ensuring all are labelled and packaged correctly with accurate demographic details.

With a turnover of around £700 million, we provide services at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, University Hospital Lewisham and a range of community settings in Lewisham.

We also provide some services at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup.

This is reflected in our most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection (from February 2020), which found improvements across the organisation and gave us an improved rating of "Good" in the Well-Led and Effective domains, in addition to the rating of "Good" that we had already achieved in the Caring domain.

Our staff culture change programme has been key to the Trust's improvement journey, as we've stabilised our workforce by reducing vacancy rates and improving staff retention.

We've also significantly increased the representation of minority ethnic leaders across our clinical and corporate teams.

The post holder will undertake delegated, supervised work and assigned duties. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that there is continual feedback to the supervising clinician


The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary departmental team undertaking duties in relation to the smooth running of the clinic; ensuring the clinical area is well stocked and cleaned in line with infection control policies.

Supporting clinically in patient care, outreach activities as well as a range of other support functions which will include clerical duties - for example working on reception.


The post holder will undertake the delivery of quality patient care to meet their physical, psychological and social needs maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.

A non-judgemental, accepting and open-minded attitude is an essential pre-requisite for this post. As well as the ability to work flexibly across services areas
