The Role


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced speech and language therapist to join our Therapy team at John Radcliffe Hospital.


The post holder will be an experienced Speech and Language Therapist working across acute inpatient wards at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

This includes complex medicine, geratology, surgery, cardiac services, trauma, and critical care.

They will be an integral member of the inpatient Adult Speech and Language Therapy team and work closely within multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring patients receive person-centred and effective care.

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

There will be opportunities to supervise the clinical placement of physiotherapy students from Oxford Brookes and Coventry Universities. There are excellent opportunities for Continued Professional Development through in-service training, and on-going peer support and clinical supervision.

The Responsibilities

  • Needs to be inperson / on site (i.e. not suitable for home working)
  • Use specialist clinical skills to identify, assess, diagnose and manage a specialist caseload of adults with acquired swallowing and communication disorders across a complex general medical caseload. They will work as part of the Speech and Language Therapy team.
  • They will select the appropriate intervention for effective, evidencebased therapy.
  • Make independent decisions about caseload management.
  • Provide second opinions to less experienced colleagues.
  • Contribute to audit and service development projects in this clinical area.
Independently receive students on placement for clinical teaching and supervision.

  • Be responsible for the supervision of junior colleagues.
  • Contribute to the support of newly and recently graduated Speech and Language Therapy staff.
  • Provide necessary cover for the caseloads of other Speech and Language Therapists within the Trust as required
Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent

Must be dysphagia competent

To be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
