Work Location:
Will be required to work at any YMCA St Paul's Group location across Northeast and West of London mainly.

Job Purpose
To support the running of youth activities and other centre duties. This will include engaging with the young people, supporting preparation, and the delivery of activities and sessions. Reporting to the Youth Programmes Officer for support on sessions on and off site.

Duties and Responsibilities

Youth session lead/support

  • To attend work at specified hours as a responsible adult and assist with the setting up, packing down, and delivery of activities for the children and young people.
  • To encourage and support individual young people in working towards any outcomes that they have set.
  • To help plan and prepare activities for youth project users, using clear outcomes and objectives and our monitoring and evaluation tools to ensure sessions meet industry and organisational standards of practice.
  • To deliver fun, inclusive, team building activities and group games.
  • To assist/lead with briefings and evaluations before and after each session.
  • To take on the role of a Basketball Coach on sessions they are leading, and reporting to the Youth Programmes Officer for support where needed.
  • Identifying the needs of the community groups.
  • Designing, monitoring and evaluating basketball projects.
  • To be aware of and ensure best practice is strived for; First Aid, Health and Safety, Safeguarding, and Data protection procedures are met at all times.
  • Utilising young people's view of the world.
  • Treating young people with respect.
  • Seeking to develop young people's skills and attitudes rather than remedy 'problem behaviours'.
  • Helping young people develop stronger relationships and collective identities.
  • Liaising with local authorities, schools and companies to build interest and support from possible funders and community members.
  • Understanding the game and the rules.
  • Studying the skills and abilities of the players to maximize performance.
  • Devising play strategies.
  • Developing ideas to optimize performance.
  • Providing mentorship.
  • Teaching players the rules of the game.
  • Training assistant coaches.
  • Teaching relevant skills, tactics and techniques
  • Monitoring and enhancing performance by providing tuition, encouragement and constructive feedback
  • Identifying strengths and weaknesses
  • Advising about health and lifestyle issues
  • Developing training programmes
  • Undertaking administrative tasks
  • Assisting with sports promotion/development.
