Imaging Assistant

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Barts Health NHS Trust Full time

Job overview

Due to the nature of this unit, the post holder must be female. This provision applies under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, section 7 (2)(B) in relation to a genuine occupational qualification.

This is a part time post, 0.6wte, three days per week (22.5 hours per week), some flexibility but to include Thursdays

We are looking for a motivated, flexible, hardworking and caring Imaging Assistant to join the team in Breast Imaging at Barts Health.

You will be based at St Bartholomew's but will also work in the Breast Imaging Unit at Whipps Cross Hospital and at Newham University Hospital.

The central part of this role is providing the highest quality care for the women referred to our service. You will do this by assisting the Radiographers and Radiologists with a range of x-ray and ultrasound procedures; by providing clerical and reception support; by maintaining up to date and accurate records; by communicating well and by working as a team.

Main duties of the job

You should be caring and compassionate with good interpersonal skills. It is in the nature of the work that our patients are often upset and anxious when they come to us – you will need to give explanations and instructions in a way that is understood and is also friendly and welcoming. You will need to be organised and work to a strict methodology; be able to follow procedure but also capable of thinking on your feet and making your own decisions. You should be good at starting jobs and seeing them through to completion.

Previous experience in healthcare in a similar setting will be essential; of dealing with patients on a face-to-face basis in a clinical role, of Infection Control practices. Prior experience of receptionist duties and knowledge of clerical practices would also be an advantage.

Please note – this is a clinical role with an admin element, not an admin role.
