An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced practitioners with criminal justice interest, to work in the Black Country's Integrated Offender Health (IOH) Service.

Staff would be expected to work in both Crown and Magistrates Courts across the Black Country area and also work in the community within the Outreach element of the team.


This will include providing high quality assessments of people attending both Crown and Magistrates Courts and supporting people under the care of the Court Outreach Team.

The service will be delivered to people of all ages including those under the age of 18yrs who present with any vulnerability including but not limited to; mental health, physical health, learning disability, head injury, unemployment, housing, educational needs etc.

This exciting service is currently funded by NHS England and is delivered by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.


The successful applicants must be experienced in risk assessment, highly motivated and someone who is looking for a new challenge and have the skills to make a difference.


Applicants must be RMN, RNLD or social worker qualified and have experience in working with service users with complex needs.

The Post holder will be expected to work across all the Black Country Courts on a daily basis.


The Post holder will be expected to conduct assessments within the court custody and landing areas providing relevant information to Court & Probation services to support sentencing options and offer diversion options out of the criminal justice system to more appropriate services where needs are identified.


The post holder will be required to work autonomously within this role and be accountable for managing referrals; prioritizing referrals and ensuring clinical and electronic record keeping standards are adhered too.

There may also be times where the post holder would be required to work, as directed by demand and need, across the wider service including Custody and Outreach teams

  • Working in an Integrated Offender Health Service in the Black Country, dependent on skill and service need.
  • Delivering a high quality clinical service to patients and their families.
  • Managing complex assessment in court, custody suite and Outreach Service. Responsible for clinical and caseload supervision of other team members where identified.
  • Diverting and Liaising with multiple criminal police and other partners.
  • To provide written reports for Crown or Magistrates Courts or to attend and give verbal evidence as required. To offer considered recommendations to these bodies.
  • Responsible for participating in the setting of quality standards, including the auditing, monitoring and reviewing of practice in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.
  • Assess patient's individual care needs, agree and refer on to appropriate agency.
  • Complete and contribute, where appropriate to robust risk assessments and risk management plans. Deliver and promote positive risk taking, where appropriate, to improve quality of life and maximise occupational performance/independence.
  • Maintain an effective reporting system by observing and reporting verbally and in writing on patient condition
  • Utilise agreed outcome measures to review the effectiveness of process, as part of Health and Justice Service.
  • Participate in the development of the service to ensure clinical governance processes are actively implemented at a team level.
  • Assist in ensuring that the aims and objectives of the service (as set by the Team Leader) are fulfilled and to identify factors which may inhibit these from being achieved.
