West Yorkshire, United Kingdom National Infrastructure Commission Full time

Do you enjoy planning and delivering a varied and engaging programme of events, visits and meetings to help influence policy change? Are you a collaborative team player willing to both think strategically and roll your sleeves up to deliver high quality results? If so, we'd love to hear from you

About the Team

The National Infrastructure Commission was established in 2017 to provide government with impartial, expert advice on major long-term infrastructure challenges. The Commission advises government on all sectors of economic infrastructure (energy, transport, water and wastewater, waste, flood risk management and digital communications), as well as on crosscutting issues, including planning, regulation and financing/funding.

The Commission is led by a group of ten expert Commissioners, chaired by Sir John Armitt. It is supported by a small Secretariat combining of policy advisors, economists, communications and engagement and operational staff. The Secretariat is led by our Chief Executive, supported by a Senior Management Team, comprising the Chief Economist, two Directors of Policy and Chief Operating Officer.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Events and Engagement Officer to join the Secretariat's Communications and Engagement team working primarily with the Stakeholder and Strategic Engagement Lead and Head of Communications.

About the Job

This role sits at the heart of the National Infrastructure Commission's work to influence important government policy on net zero, climate resilience and to support regional economic growth. You will work across the Secretariat at all levels and with Commissioners to ensure we are delivering high quality events, visits and meetings of different formats and scales.

This is a hands-on role, with responsibility for planning and delivering high profile launch events both online and in-person as well as smaller scale roundtables and presentations taking place around the country. You will work closely with and the stakeholder and strategic engagement lead and policy teams to target the right partners and plan effective and engaging discussions, and you will plan and deliver an engaging series of influential speakers as part of the Commission's monthly board meetings. You will also help ensure that the Commission's senior team are regularly attending meetings with partners by developing and maintaining an up to date, central contact database and team member management system.

About You

The successful candidate will communicate purpose and direction with clarity, integrity and enthusiasm. You will take responsibility for delivering timely and quality results with focus and drive. You'll form effective partnerships and relationships with people internally and externally and from a range of diverse backgrounds, sharing information, resources and support and you will be able to understand how your role fits with and supports organisational objectives.

The National Infrastructure Commission has a strong commitment to equality and diversity. Our aim is to be an open and inclusive team, recruiting and retaining diverse, talented and high-performing people who support and develop one another.

We aim to be a diverse, friendly organisation and operate in line with a set of principles, called 'The Commission Way'.

As a small, high performing organisation there is a focus on working together, sharing ideas and supporting each other's development.

Some of the Benefits our people love

  • 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years), plus 8 public holidays and the King's birthday (unless you have a legacy arrangement as an existing Civil Servant).
  • Additionally, we operate flexitime systems, allowing employees to take up to an additional 2 days off each month
  • Flexible working patterns (part-time, job-share, condensed hours)
  • Generous parental and adoption leave packages
