An opportunity has arisen within the Royal National Ear, Nose & Throat Hospital & Eastman Dental Hospital for a 4 PA Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry.

The post is based at the Royal National ENT & Eastman Dental Hospitals in London, part of the Specialist Hospitals Board of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Successful applicants will join consultant colleagues as part of a wider established team providing a full range of paediatric dental services, postgraduate training and research.

Applicants will be expected to have excellent communication skills, a high level of clinical experience and knowledge of paediatric dentistry and enthusiasm for postgraduate teaching and training.

Interviews will be scheduled between April-May 2023.


The post holder would work 4 PA's within the Paediatric Dental Department of the Eastman Dental Hospital (part of RNENT & Eastman Dental Hospitals, UCLH NHS Foundation Trust).

Duties will include diagnosis and treatment planning, treatment under general anaesthetic and sedation, supervision of trainees and post graduate students and involvement in multidisciplinary clinics which may include hypodontia, ortho-paeds, anomalies and oral medicine.

There may also be an expectation to be involved with assisting in remote advice clinics.


The post-holder will be expected to show drive and initiative towards patient care putting the patient first in line with the Trust core values.

As the post-holder will be an integral part of the departmental team, the ability to lead and work as a team member will be essential.

Mandatory training in line with requirements of the Division and Trust must be adhered to.

The Trust operates an electronic computerised records system, facilitating remote access to records, high quality patient care and innovative service delivery.

The post-holder will need good IT and communication skills as well as a desire to evolve the service, enhancing patient care through excellence in education and training.


The post is for 4 PA sessions (16 hours) in the Department of Paediatric Dentistry at the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals.

The Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals opened on Huntley Street in October 2019. The hospital treats conditions affecting the ear, nose, throat and mouth including dental, hearing, speech and balance services.


Bringing the (now closed) Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital and the Eastman Dental Hospital together in a state-of-the-art building means we have created one of the largest specialist centres for the treatment of conditions relating to the head and neck, including dental; ear, nose and throat (ENT) and hearing, speech and balance.

The post-holder will be accountable to the Clinical Director (Dr Deborah Bomfim) in the first instance and ultimately to the Divisional Clinical Director of the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals (Dr N Kumar) and will report to the Clinical Lead within the specialty.

The post is within the Specialist Hospitals Board, led by the Divisional Clinical director and Medical Director.

Job Plan


The new post-holder(s) will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including personal and professional objectives with the Clinical Lead and Clinical Director within three months of his / her start date; and the Consultant may be required to undertake a prospective diary exercise to inform this process.

The majority of the job plan for Programmed Activities related to direct patient care follows a team-based approach.

The part of the job plan related to wider departmental activities, supporting professional activities and personal objectives is more individually tailored.

In addition to clinical activity based within the UCLH clinical sites, the post holder may be expected to contribute to activities based in outreach clinics within the local CDS and help develop links with Bedford CDS.
