We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team, collaboratively ensuring digital transformation across UHDB (University Hospitals of Derby and Burton)Maternity Services by implementation of a Maternity specific ePR system in 2024.

The post holder will work closely together with current digital midwives, user researchers and the digital team, leading on community midwifery care, primary care and cross ICB care.

The role includes working in partnership with service users and the Maternity and neonatal Voices Partnerships (MVP) to develop a wide range of resources to enable access to pregnancy information which supports choice and equity as well as personalised care and support plans.

The post holder will represent the interests of the maternity service at internal, local, regional and national external meetings on behalf of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.

The post holder will be responsible for identifying and leading significant service and operational transformation, including standardisation of maternity systems and processes and support cascade training of staff in clinical settings.

The digital midwife is an experienced midwife with enhanced knowledge of digital issues and information technology systems within maternity. They ensure clinical practice supported by digital technology meets professional standards.

They will promote changes in the profession, utilising digital technology to improve service delivery, women's experience, quality and safety.

We provide low and high-risk care pathways - and specialty pathways including diabetes and cardiology.

Around 9,000 babies are born each year across two sites, and we provide antenatal and postnatal care for 11,500 women each year in hospital and our communities.

Facilities

We have three wards across two sites, with a total of 88 beds for antenatal, postnatal and induction of labour.

  • 17 delivery rooms including one pool room and bereavement suite.
  • Four bedded Midwife led birth centre.
  • Four bedded Obstetric Enhanced Care area and a two bedded assessment bay
Queen's Hospital Burton has seven delivery rooms including one pool room and one bereavement suite.

Samuel Johnson Community Hospital is currently closed to intrapartum care but continues as a community midwifery hub.

Where we are now

We are CQC rated Good in 2019 and we are making good progress in achieving compliance with the immediate and essential actions from Ockenden report 1, with assurance on progress being overseen by Quality Performance Committee and Trust Board.

We also have developed specialist roles to deliver the Public Health Agenda and we actively engage with the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnerships.

We have more to do in driving forward improvements and positive change in maternity services to make sure we deliver the best quality of care, every time, and are looking for a strong leader who can continue the good work already done by the outgoing post-holder.

They will work closely with staff across the multi-disciplinary team to support effective working relationships both within and external to the maternity service.

Cross boundary working is an important aspect of the role, to link IT, system suppliers and clinical staff to ensure they work collaboratively to achieve safe and effective practice.

They will provide support to those who find digital technology challenging and signpost them to appropriate training and support available both within and external to the organisation.

They will also provide cascade training.

They will support data collection by ensuring that staff are effectively using electronic systems to capture key data and completing this accurately to ensure quality data is reflected.

They should evaluate data quality and be able to support local and national data collection from the new Maternity and Neonatal ePR system.
