Behaviour Change Worker (Custody Suite Team)


The Behaviour Change Worker (Custody Suite Team) role is pivotal to the delivery of our services and helping people impacted by domestic abuse.

It's a challenging and client-facing role. You'll need to be resilient and able to adapt and cope with change.
No two days are ever the same.
You'll be part of the
close-knit, supportive My CWA team and will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

We'll support and nurture you in your role.

All staff have a detailed induction when they join and there are plenty of development opportunities to gain experience and grow.

Our Team


Our team works with people who often have
complex and multiple needs, supporting them to change unhealthy relationship attitudes and behaviours.


You'll be a key member of our Behaviour Change Team ensuring we effectively deliver our early intervention approach across three Police Custody Suites (Runcorn, Blacon and Middlewich).


The role

At a glance


Our custody suite team provide domestic abuse support and an early intervention approach across three police custody suites (Runcorn, Blacon and Middlewich) usually 1pm to 5pm each day, 7 days a week.

This team provides information about My CWA behaviour change programmes and, if appropriate, refers perpetrators into other relevant services.

They also work from our Crewe support centre supporting the wider behaviour change team outside of custody suite hours with delivery of programmes and providing bail support.

They also work on call on a rota basis to support our 24 hour helpline at evenings and weekends and receive additional pay for this.


Important to note:

Role involves working outside core office hours.
Travelling around Cheshire is essential for this role. Must be a driver with own car and business insurance.

Who we are looking for

Key Responsibilities
Deliver our early intervention approach across Police Custody Suites, identifying unmet needs, assessing appropriate support and making referrals.

Effectively case noting this work using our case management system and supporting the wider team to report on its impact.

Providing bail support
Working flexibly and contributing to the frontline delivery of custody suite work and other behaviour change activities as required.
To write reports during your work with families based on your assessments, their progress and final reports with recommendations. This includes for social care and Court.

To refer on and facilitate meetings with other agencies/ services necessary (for example, police, solicitors, benefits agency, etc.) and build good relationships with stakeholders.

To keep up to date with safeguarding legislation and local practice, and identify safeguarding concerns and make appropriate referrals.

Model My CWA behaviours and values both externally and internally, acting as an ambassador for the organisation at all times.

Contribute to the continuous development of good practice across My CWA and partners, being willing to challenge and raise concerns where appropriate.

To comply and contribute actively to the required monitoring of outcomes for the service.
On a rota basis, to cover our out of hours helpline as the staff member on call. This will involve out of hours responses to emergencies.
You will receive additional pay.

Skills, Capabilities & Personal Attributes
Good standard of education, literacy and numeracy.
Evidence of recent learning in a related field, e.g. social care, domestic abuse, probation. PTLLS or group facilitation would be an advantage. Understanding of the dynamics and typologies of domestic abuse.

Knowledge and experience of direct work with families who have complex needs and working with people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Understanding of Safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong organisational, report writing and communication skills. Assessment and support planning skills.

Ability to manage a high volume workload and conflicting priorities in a busy environment.

Demonstrable capability to conduct one's self in a calm and professional manner when dealing with the public and/or difficult situations.

Self-reflective and able to embrace constructive feedback.
Ability to work with a diverse group of
